Stinky feet?

Hi Ladies,

I wasn't exactly sure where to put this post....moderators feel free to move it. ;-)

I have been having an issue with my feet for probably the last year. It doesn't really matter what kind of shoes I am wearing, but my feet seem to sweat and then smell.  ??? I am a huge fan of flip flops, so I try to find the dressiest ones the store has just so my feet don't sweat as bad. Even with those, there is still a odor. I don't know what to do for this, but it is extremely discouraging and embarrassing. I have heard people say to use foot powders and such, but I was wondering if anyone else has this problem? Could this be related to sjogrens ???

If anyone has some advice, PLEASE let me know!

Thanks,

Stephanie

I'm not sure if this is directly related to sjogrens....but it makes sense that since many of our body thermostats are "broken" and many of us sweat more than we used to OR due to medication we may sweat more than we used to that I guess your feet could sweat more than they used to as well!

Just a guess on my part....but it makes sense to me..... :)

Boy I know that oder well! ;)  I use Gold Bond foot powder in the shoes, helps a lot.  I love flip flops, but my feet hurt in regular shoes, they are down right painful in anything else - opefully, this will pass soon.

Take care -

Stephanie,
Just to be on the safe side, when you see your doctor next time, please mention this problem to him/her.  It could be something else entirely and simple to alleviate.

I know Sjs can cause us numerous problems but we shouldn't blame it for everything. ;D

The foot powder Patze mentioned is one solution, but please still mention it to your doctor.

I am wondering about something else.

For the last 3 years or so I have had a stinky scalp and believe I caught it from my son who caught it from his football helmet.  My son is a strong healthy young man and has recovered from this on his own after about 1 year.

I've been to the dermatologist and he says he cannot find anything wrong up there but I really think my body chemistry has changed (maybe from Sjs maybe from Menopause?) and is harboring a low level fungal or bacterial growth of some kind.

I do not have any itching or flaking...just lots of sweating and the smell.

The doc also said if you get toe nail fungus or smelly feet, put Vicks VapoRub on them every night for several months.  If it is a fungal infection the VapoRub will kill it.  If you have cracking in your heels (which is commonly caused by fungus) be sure to put lots there.  Lotrimin AF does the same thing but costs a whole lot more.

I hope this helps you sweetie.
Best to you!

Hi JannaLee, ah Vicks VapoRub?  Now that's the first I've heard of that!  But then, I've not had a foot fungal problem yet (keeping the old fingers crossed).

Okay, I'm not a doctor, nor am I in the medical field (in the past or present), but could there a medicated shampoo your primary may be able to prescribe for your hair/head issue?  I may be way off base (won't be the first time either ;D), but there has got to be something out there that you can be prescribed or maybe something OTC?  Can you see a different dermatologist by chance?  Hopefully someone will stop by and shed some light onto the situation.

Hi Stephanie, I should have explained a bit better, I've had the foot oder a lot of years now at least since I had kidlet - she threw my body chemistry out of whack and it's never really recovered.  Now that's my story and I'm going to stick to it (sssshhhhhhh, just don't tell kidlet)!!! ;D ;)

Yeah Patze you are right, I need to get back to the doctor on this scalp thing....

I've tried the over the counter stuff and had no cure.  DEEP SIGH...
