Still off my IVIG and Metformin

I can't even remember if I posted and told you that my IVIG has been held since my infusion on May 5th due to my kidney disease. My creatine is up and doc has held IVIG for now and probably I am done with it for good I would think. Have no idea how I am going to do with my Myasthenia but so far have have a couple not good days and then more days that I have problems but not so bad. I am to still take my oral Metformin to help with the muscle weakness.

I have been to the doctor a lot lately and finally get into the kidney specialist the end of the month after many months wait. Will see where I am at then. My family doc took me off my metformin in July and I have been on no medication for my diabetes. I have been not good at following my diet and am finally working at my diet better and cooking more for myself. Live in a studio apartment so only a counter top portable burner and a microwave. Just got a toaster oven and am slowly trying to figure the darn thing out. Get one meal a day where I live but not always the best foods.

My last AIC was 6.4 and I thought it would be around 8....have no idea how this happened. Has been hard for me to exercise this year due to the GI bleed in Jan. and following 7 months of low hemoglobin.Plus the Noro virus in Mar and Covid in June. I have had anemia for many years and get iron infusions every so often. Also had one unit blood in April for hemb of 7.6 that showed up with no visible bleeding.

Of course, the thought is that my kidney disease is causing the anemia so will find out about that soon. I will say that my previous kidney specialist and doctor at the old clinic did not seem to get on the band wagon in treating me. The good thing is my blood chemistry has been good except for the creatine, bun and the anemia and I don't seem to be in heart failure as very little leg swelling or weight change.

Thankfully, I am starting to feel a little stronger and have a little more energy. The covid took more out of me than I expected. As my husband always said, we are all going to die of something......These days we all live longer and have so many more somethings than our parents did. Hang in there folks. It surely is one day at a time and as long as we have a little kick left we must keep on keeping on. Good luck to all. meirish

My gosh, Joe, I haven't checked this page for a long time so didn't see your post. I am still hanging in there. My anemia continues to plague me and am waiting for prior authorization for IV iron again. I live in independent living in a senior living and we have had covid again. Never have a lot of it. We have 90 to 100 people living here so the most we have had is 10 people at a time.

I just walked some halls tonight and the quarantine is off of quite a few people now. Usually 10 days in our apartment so it is boring. This latest covid has been mostly upper respiratory and bad chest colds and coughing. All activities cancelled for a week and can only sit 2 people to a table at meals and always masks which is getting so old. Thankfully we haven't had the whole place sick at once as that would be so hard on the kitchen staff and the aides.

Minnesota is getting some snowy weather now. More in one storm around where I live compared to last year. Early evening some rain was falling along with the sleet and small flakes. Hope the roads aren't slippery tomorrow. Hope you and your wife are doing well and able to enjoy the holiday and upcoming Christmas.. Such a change in having Christmas in our older years compared to the fun and excitement, decorating, baking, cooking and working hard when the kids were little. Everything in its season they say. Take care. Blessings. meirish
