Allergies and allergy shots

Just curious, has anyone here ever taken the desensitization shots for their allergies??? I did when I was younger. My allergies have started flaring up again and I might see what I am allergic to these days. I know I am allergic to my dogs. They had hinted at maybe getting shots. I was wondering if that manipulation of our immune system might cause flares?? When I took them before when I was a young person, I never got sick!! Never took a flu shot back then either. The allergist said I wouldn't need one b/c of the shots. So, I am thinking if it stimulates your immune system like that, I shouldn't get them with an auto immune disease.
