First punctal plugs and Meibomian Gland Disease question?

Just had my first ophthalmology consultation and he felt my eyes were sufficiently dry, despite applying drops every hour or more, to warrant trying Plugs. He inserted them but warned me that they often work their way out- in which case it could take a while to replace on NHS as this clinic has very long waiting list for non urgent patients. Wish I'd asked to see them first now - think they were the long tube type as that's how they felt to me when he was pushing them in.

I appear to already feeling a benefit as haven't used drops more than three times since having this minor procedure this morning.

Fretting about my MGD treatment now though because he said that my eyes were pretty dry (3-4 rather than over 10 as normal person would be in tear break up test) - but he commented that my meibomian glands were lousy despite heat pads most days) so I should increase the treatment to 20 minutes a day again.

But I'm a bit worried now that all the moisture and massage of lids might squeeze these plugs out. Anyone else have both and manage to keep them in?

Finally I read some comments on a SSF post about the pros and cons of punctal plugs and people mentioned dryer nose, mouth and throat - I already have a sore throat and suffer nose bleeds so wondering if the price of having moistened eyes will be in worsening dryness elsewhere?
