Thyroid questions answered

I returned from my long awaited appointment in Seattle with the endo and learned some things. Though my thyroid was low, my cortisol was lower, as my adrenals aren't waking up very quickly from the steroids. Cortisol is needed for the cells to be able to take in the thyroid med to use it and without enough the thyroid hormone simply builds up in the tissues and becomes toxic. That's why I felt so awful after a couple of weeks on the thyroid medication. She says I must wait to take the medication until my cortisol reaches a normal level, although I will not feel good from the low thyroid, it isn't life threatening like the adrenal issue could be. She ordered me a medical alert bracelet to wear until my adrenals kick in for safety. My other hormones are wacky also and she is looking into that as well. I liked her and will return to let her try to balance everything.

 Sorry you haven't been feeling well. I hope the adrenals  kick in soon.  This is an interesting topic for those of us with thyroid issues. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Something to think about! Sounds like you have a good Endo. Feel better soon!
