was just researching pomegranate here because its a natural weak carbonic anhydrase inhibitor (extracted parts of pomengranate in supplements per wikipedia) which could theoretically be useful for intracranial hypertension a type of headache (to say the least)

I want to try the supplement which hopefully would be different than just having pomegranate fruit or juice....but I have been sensitive to bananas and almonds in the past for headache triggers

I have been getting increasingly worse migraines and saw a neurologist last week.  He prescribed topamax and imitrex...I have read about such scary side effects from the topamax that I have not started it yet...migraines are indeed horrible.  Hoping everyone out there with migraines find a protocol to help.

does anyone know if there is a simple or fairly surefire way to determine if one's headaches are caused by  intracranial hypertension or conversely cerebral hypoperfusion and transient ischemia. (Treating the wrong cause will definitely make the problem worse.) I am not sure which way someone who responds to pomegranate more likely is.......I am guessing intracranial hypertension since pomegranate loosely in same category as diamox or carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. I don't know if its that cut and dried.....I feel I have displayed symptoms over the years of both hypertension in the brain but also hypoperfusion. I don't have high blood pressure though but most vitals run on low side for me....but certain meds or experiences can temporarily create what looks like intracranial hypertension.

Hey finallyadx, I have been on topomax for two years without any problems at all for my acephalgic migraines. My neuro started me on 25mg at night and we very slowely titred up tp 3 times a day. I went as high as 50mg three times a day. Once symptoms subsided I went back to 25 mg a day, again slow titration. She also has me take 500mg of B2 daily which more and more neuros are recommending as well.

I started getting migraines when I was around 35 and had terrible, ones sometimes two or three a week for a long time, none of the over the counter medication worked.   What finally helped me was a medication called Naramig (naratriptan hydrochloride).   This is almost always successful and I can often even get away with just taking half a tablet.   Might be worth looking into.

Hey Tharrell - thank you for your reply.  It always helps to hear others who have positive outcomes from a new medication you have been prescribed!  I think when it comes to migraines it is a trial and error for each of us - what works for one, may not work for another...
