Problems with styes

I was diagnosed with Sjogren's this past summer and have been on Plaquenil since the beginning of August.  For me, the disease has mostly manifested itself in my joints and muscles and I have minimal eye dryness and no mouth dryness to speak of.  In the last month or so, I've had three styes in my eyes at different times, the most recent in the middle of my upper eyelid...nowhere near the lash line.  Does anyone else have this problem and could it be from either the Sjogren's or the Plaquenil?  I haven't had a stye in years until this recently started.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Blue Kat  :)

I have to admit I haven't read much about styes on this forum. I guess if someone is prone to them, immunosupressants may make them more likely but I don't think they are typical of SjS.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Blue Kat,

I've not read about them being common in SJS, but that doesn't mean that there aren't several members that might suffer from them.

Have you spoken to your opthamologist about it yet?  If you have, what did the doctor say?

Hang in there and take care -

I was dx'ed with SjS and SLE in December 2008. In January 2009, I awoke with what I thought was a stye, below my left eye. Because I'd never had one like that, I went to my PCP, who referred me to an opthamologist. The opthamologist dx it as a chelazion cyst. She numbed the area and removed the cyst, leaving me with a couple of stitches on the inner side of my eye (not visible). I wore a bandage and used anti bacterial drops for a few days afterward. My point being, if you've not had it looked at, please make an appt. Mine looked and felt like a pea (hard) when I touched it.

Thanks, BonusMom, I guess I'll call my eye doc on Monday about it.  It's still there but I can't tell if it's on my eyelid or my actual eyeball and when I try to look up in there I can't see anything either way.  At least the soreness is going away for the most part.

An early Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans on this board!   :)

I am new to the forum and I realize this is an old post, but if Blue Kat is still participating, I have a question. I have had unexplained muscle and joint aches for years along with severe fatigue. My dry eyes and mouth have been less severe and are just now becoming a more serious problem. Thus I wonder how Blue Kat was diagnosed via the aches and fatigue without the traditional Sjogrens symptoms. I'm so frustrated trying to find answers. Thank you for any input.
