I need advice and direction from some fellow Sjorgrens suffers. The past week I have had severe throat tightening and extreme dryness. It feels like someone has stuffed cotton down my throat. I woke two days ago to acid reflux, sob, chest pain, and having a hard time swallowing. Today I woke to those symptoms and vomiting. I told my doctor I keep vomiting white chunks and have blisters in my mouth. She did not think it was yeast or thrush and gave me Zofran and pepsid. It has not helped. Has anyone experienced this? I just cry cause I am so dry it hurts my chest and u feel like I am strangling. I am extremely tired and my gut is at war as well. I need some direction please.

hi Toby, are you still having these symptoms?

What worked best for me when I was having severe GERD was prilosec in the morning and zantac at night, though sometimes I needed to take my protonix prescription to get it under control.   After one to two weeks I weaned down off of this and now just use the meds as needed.

when my throat and mouth were coated in white my doctors could not agree on what it was and no one took a sample; one said thrush, one said doesn't look like thrush, and so decided on my own for a couple of weeks, a few times a day I would hold a spoonful of plain yogurt in my mouth and then spit it out because I was having a hard time swallowing almost anything.  The white coating went away but I do not know if it was the yogurt or the steroid shots I was given that helped;  I did live on Boost and broth for a while and also had an extremely minimal diet at that time due to the inability to swallow solid food.

I have since been diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis and I think that is what causes the severe GERD, coating and swallowing difficulty.   I think the dryness makes it all worse, though I generally have figured out for the most part how to deal with it, even though my rheumy always says I look pretty dry in my mouth, maybe I'm just used to it and only notice it when having a bad flare.

I am not a doctor and only offering what seemed to work for me at the time and as always you should check in with your doctors for advice on treating your specific set of symptoms.

Hope you're feeling better.
