Is anyone wearing eye contact lenses?

Hi everyone,

Are any of you still able to tolerate eye contact lenses?
I've just had nose surgery and the pressure from the glasses on my nose bridge is hurting the healing process... Contact lenses might be a better alternative.

If so, which type of lenses do you wear & what type of liquid?

Hi Maria, it would depend how dry your eyes are, you would need to ask your opthalmologist. I tried contact lenses specifically made for dry eyes, was supposed to help with that. I barely, with half a bottle of eye drops per eye, managed to peel them off my poor dry eye balls. Never doing that again!

I still wear them, but it gets harder and harder all the time.  It's so depressing cos I've never felt confident in my glasses.  I also hate the weight of glasses on my nose.

Hi girls,

Thank you so much for your replies.

Yesterday my ophthalmologist measured my tear break up time and it was 7 seconds (should be 10 in healthy individuals). He said it wasn't too bad for someone with Sjogren's. So I tried out a pair of contacts for approx 3.5 hours. I was amazed! No pain, no sticking!

I must say I'm scared though, as I fear they will cling to the cornea - so as a precautionary measure I splashed some Hylo-Gel (high content of hyaluronic acid) on them before taking them out, easy as pie!

For now at least I can give my painfull nose bridge it's well deserved rest, hoping it will speed up the healing process...

I have yet to have a definite diagnosis of sjogren's but I had to stop wearing contact lenses about two years ago.
They dried my eyes out so much that the lenses would split in my eyes. It was so painful!
Please be careful if you decide to keep wearing them.

Hi Jenny,

That sounds awful! Were these hard or soft lenses? And which type of fluids did you use?

I find much has improved since Sjogren's forced me to stop wearing contacts about 14 years ago. Also low dose testosterone & dhea have improved my eye moisture, there even a little watery now ...

I wore contacts for about 35 yrs and had to stop that about 2 yrs ago. I hate glasses. Thankfully, I'm not that blind and don't need them at home.
