Cataract Surgery

Yesterday, I got what I think is great news... my cataracts are 'biologically operable'. 

The ophthalmologist says I can look forward to much better vision and less glare, and although I will still need reading glasses, no other correction should be necessary. I have had glasses, thick ones, since I was 3 years old.
This will happen in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I am hydrating my eyes every few hours and cannot wear my contact lenses.

I already have the tear-duct plugs, which changed my life. I hope this will make it even better.

Has anyone here had cataract surgery recently? If so, what can I expect? They are doing each eye a week apart.  Can I go to work the next day, after each one?

I haven't had the surgery, but it's in my future for sure. I hope all goes well. It sounds so promising for you.

I had the cataract surgeries. My eyes seemed to progress very rapidly with the cataracts. I even blogged about it: www.sjodry.wordpress.com  see: The Eyes Have It under my humor category.

I had cataract surgery on both eyes last year. While I have heard of many folks going to work the same day of the surgery or the day after, I took a couple of days off. It was not terribly painful. The biggest complaint of most folks is having to put drops in so frequently after the surgery. But for Sjoggies..this aspect is a piece of cake since we are already used to putting in drops frequently.

I always refrigerate my drops (Restasis), because I like how it feels on my eyes.

My doc also waited a week between surgeries. I hope it goes well for you.

Sorry it took me all these months to reply.
The doc called me the night before at 8 to see if I had any questions, and asked if I was ready. I said of course, and asked if HE was, since all I had to do was take a Valium and lay still. He said he was drinking shots of tequila, and figured he'd be ready to go by the time I got there at 9 a.m., and not to worry, because he'd tell me dirty jokes the whole time.

Everything went beautifully, although I did have an unexpected moment of claustrophobia when they pinned my head to the table with the sticky drape  My doctor was amazing, though and told me terrible puns all through it (not dirty ones)

I can see well enough to drive, watch movies and TV without any glasses. I do have reading glasses, and a pair distance glasses for night driving or if I'm in a stadium/watching races.

I couldn't be more pleased.
