Marathon Training - IBS or Chrons?

I'm determined to run my marathon.  I can do this.  But I have had to change my schedule slightly and find different training plan that will accommodate some things.

First, I'm in about my fourth week of actually training under the first plan I've tried.  I've been experiencing bowel leaks!  Yikes!  Talk about a show stopper on any run!  It burns, I bleed, I cry.  I had this happen before while running about a year ago and it was one reason I stopped running.  The doctor said I has fizzures and gave me ointment and told me I need a colonoscopy.  I put it off of course as I just turned 50...how dare they ask for that early!

So now that it is getting worse, I'm taking the jump.  I have it scheduled for May 5th.  I'm adjusting my training.  I won't be running so hard for awhile and hopefully the procedure just says that I need to adjust my diet.

Anyone else experience this?
Plaquenil (generic), vitamin D, Amitriptyline, Citalopram

Hi LisaMarie  :)

I am sorry about your bowel problems and am glad that you are having investigations to find out what is going on.

I don't know if this is encouraging or not - but my son has Crohn's disease and is now a runner. He has done a couple of half marathons and regularly runs 3Ks and 5Ks competitively.  He seems to have managed to get the Crohn's under control.

I hope you don't have Crohn's and hope you get answers soon.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Oh, my :( But good that you get things checked out now!

I actually thought I had Crohn's or IBS or something way worse. Then, in a totally different context, I put Hydroxychloroquine (Oxiklorin a.k.a. Plaquenil) on hold. And lo and behold! My stomach problems were gone! No more diarrhea or unexpected "explosions". I never suspected H would be the villain! Needless to ask if I ever went back on it again...

Hoping you'll find a reason and treatment very soon and possibly easy.

I am new to Sjogren's and find that some days I have bowel leaks when I cannot get all of it out.  I think it might have something to do with the pelvic floor dysfunction, but not sure.  I am waiting for my date to have a colonoscopy as I am 64 and never had one.  I did not have this problem until my Sjogren's symptoms started developing about two years ago.  I can be grocery shopping and not know it is happening.  When I get home, I see that I have leaked.  Anyone else, besides runners, have this gastro and neurological symptom like me?
