Mouth Ulcer

I know this is not unusual at least not for me, but I have this one now on my top gums area. I wear dentures after losing my teeth to sjogrens. I have been using some of my miracle mouth wash, but still not feeling well at all.

I went to the doctor at the clinic due to fever and thinking it was my throat. She gave me antibiotic shot, and a steroid shot, and prescription for antibiotic pills to take for ten days.

It wasn't until the next day that the extremely sore place in my mouth swelled up, and caused my lymph gland on the side of my neck to swell very large.

Today then with my tongue I can feel what must be a ulcer, because it feels like a little indentation or something like a little crater.

I am still running a fever with it, and feel so sick all over.

Trying to feel better before Father's Day, to see my dad. We (all of his kids) have a big dinner get together with him planned.

Oh Susan,

I hope you start to feel better.  You got the steroid shot and the antibiotics.  Sounds like you are doing everything right.  You use Magic Mourhwash, right?

Are your dentures rubbing it?  Maybe you can take a break from them for a little bit.  I don't have any good advice but I hope you feel better soon!  You have a couple of days to heal, yet.

Hoping the course of antibiotics, etc. will resolve the situation.

I see it is recommended to avoid spicy, acidic foods during the healing process.
You can ask your pharmacist to recommend an Over-the-counter gel  that protects the ulcer during healing.
I see mention of salt water mouth rinsing as well.
I have used baking soda (sometimes with or without peroxide) to help balance PH in mouth, as ours tends towards acid. Our saliva prevents this through buffering substances that keep the pH near neutral, i.e. around 7.
Important to stay hydrated (if your tap water is on the acid side.. add bit of baking soda)

What causes mouth ulcers?

The exact cause of most mouth ulcers is unknown. Stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple mouth ulcers. Certain foods, including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes and strawberries), can trigger a mouth ulcer or make the problem worse. Sometimes a sharp tooth surface or dental appliance, such as braces or ill-fitting dentures, might also trigger mouth ulcers.

Some cases of complex mouth ulcers are caused by an underlying health condition, such as an impaired immune system; nutritional problems, such as vitamin B-12, zinc, folic acid, or iron deficiency and gastrointestinal tract disease, such as Coeliac disease and Crohn's disease.

I would stop in .. pay a visit to pharmacist. They can be a wealth of information.

I would call your doc and let them know that this ulcer popped up and caused all this swelling. It might be that an antiviral med is what you need as antibiotics don't treat viral infections. You sound miserable and hope you can get this under control. Irish
