Hi
I have been having a hard time sleeping, been waking up coughing because my throat is so dry and post nasal drip (I think) because my nose is so dry.  It makes me a bit nauseas, is this normal? At first I was blaming it on our ceiling fan which my DH has to have on but last night he was gone on a business trip so I turned it off and it was just the same so I guess I can't blame it on that.

Which medicine do you recommend for better moisture production?  Salagan or isn't there another one?

I prefer Evoxac.  I take the generic form because my insurance makes that much more affordable.  I have taken the brand name and I feel no difference between the two, but others will disagree with me.

Are you using a humidifier?  That is an absolute must.  Run it year round.  Do you sleep with the head of your bed elevated?  It might help.  Drink lots of fluids and try mucous thinners.

Now, I have really bad sinus problems and I do all of this and still feel like I am choking some nights.  (Lately every night). I'm currently on antibiotic and I have constant sinus inflammation.

Without doing the above, it would be much worse.

Hope this helps.

If enough of the drip makes it down to your stomach it can definitely make you nauseated.

My pcp told me to take zyrtec and it has helped with the nausea.  I have major sinus problems and inflammation and have had several sinus infections.

I take cevelimine, which is the generic form of evoxac.

I hope you can find some relief soon.  Keep us posted.

Are you irrigating your nasal passages?? This helps to add moisture to these tissues and remove the junky mucus that sits there and ends up causing infection. Ask your doc about this. Also, if you don't have an ENT it might be wise to find a good one. I have been on nasal irrigations since year 2000 and normally irrigate 2 times a day. When I have infections I will end up doing them more often to get rid of the stuff.

My ENT just ordered Muropircin nasal irrigations starting today. He orders it from a compounding pharmacy that it out of state. This is an antibiotic that is the same as Bactroban which is an ointment that can be applied to the inside of the nose when a person has MRSA infection. THat is the bad staph.

I have used many different antibiotic nasal irrigations over the years for different infections or situations in my nose and sinuses that are driving me crazy. I have also used nasonebs with antibiotics. These irrigations and nasonebs are usually the antibiotic mixed with the mixture of boiled distillled water with salt and soda added.

If you do a search using some of these terms on this site you should find out more info. Also can google nasonebs as they are being used a lot more that they used to.

Also, Biotene makes a gel that you can apply inside your nose and it helps to keep the area moist. It is water based which is much safer than Vaseline.Any ointment or gel that is oil based can liquefy and run down the back of your throat into the lungs and has the propensity to cause a pneumonia. Hope you can find some help. Good luck. Irish
