Sometimes I Produce Way Too Much Saliva!

Dear friends,

Yes, I know.  Stop bragging!  But it has become a serious problem for me from time to time.  I have days when my mouth feels full of saliva, making it embarrassing when I talk.  And I love to talk.   :D

I take no medications that would be causing this.  I do have difficulty swallowing, well documented with various swallow tests.  I have weak muscles apparantly and they were last said to be working at 70%.

When this happens, I often feel like I have been sucking on a lemon.  You know when your mouth "waters"?  If I touch the salivary glands (is that what they are around the back of the jaw?), I can produce more water than I can handle.

Any ideas, friends?  It is an unusual query from someone with Sjogren's, to say the least.  Thank you for your ideas.

Care bear!

You lucky duck!  I don't like the fact that you are having trouble swallowing.  Sorry about that!  And I can understand why this is a problem for you because of your weak muscles.

However, I would take this away from you if I could in a heart beat cause i can't remember the last  time I felt that way!

I'd save money on my generic Evoxac. 😃

I'm sorry and I don't mean to make light of your problem.  Just having a little laugh.  Wish I had some helpful advice for this but I don't😞.

I'm sure someone here can help you.

Kathy,

If we could just share our problems.  We would both be more comfortable.

Oh, please tease away!  I deserve it.  Strangely enough I used to have a very dry mouth myself.  Maybe I found a cure, if I could only remember what I did.  Humm...

That's great & not so great news for you!

Please rack your brains as to how you've made the saliva? lol

I don't know if this is relevant at all, but the salivary glands on the inside of my cheeks and the inside of my lower lip aren't producing any saliva , but the salivary glands under my tongue are trying their hardest to make up for it.  So, brushing my teeth, there's lots of saliva.  At the dentist, again lots.  But my mouth above my tongue is really dry and my teeth stick to my cheeks.

I've read that different components of saliva are produced in the three kinds of salivary glands.  The enzymes that protect teeth are apparently produced mostly inside the cheek.

Just another weirdness from Sjs.  Maybe the different kinds of salivary glands in your mouth are working at different times.

Sooki, you may be on to something.  Kind of like the glands are back firing or having sudden short bursts of production.  And because I have had a dry mouth for so long, it is somehow unfamiliar and uncomfortable.

I am probably reaching here, but I wonder if my new chiropractor has some connection to the increased production or reduced inflammation.  He uses very different techniques and has been working a lot on my skull, cheeks and nose.  I have had only one new seizure and only a few migraines since he started working with me five weeks ago, which is outstanding for me.

I will speak with him tomorrow.

I hope it's good news on the salivary glands.  Maybe it will even out and be dependable.
