Hi all

Wondering if any of you who work on a pc in an office would share what eye drops are working best for you please.

My FL41 tint glare glasses are a help for focusing.
However, I can't handle the sore/gritty dry eyes anymore.

Hubby read castor oil drops help a lot as well as helping cataracts.
The chemist hasn't heard of castor oil drops.

I'm going to have to find a non office, non computer, non fluro, non air con job with these dry eyes!!  Where on earth will I find such employment :)

An older Sjogren's friend who is retired from office work has just had a tear duct op & can't believe she hasn't had to use eye drops since.  So happy for her.

I'm going to ask my Dr or specialist for tear ducts op in the hope I'll not need eye drops.

Very frustrated Aussie.............

Cauterization has helped a lot of people.  Systane gel drops soothe the eyes and are long lasting. Dry eyes are miserable.  You may want to check dryeyezone for lots of helpful  information.

Good luck.

Hello Lotus.

I recently had to quit working at 57 d/t my RA and sjogrens.

There are many reasons why I could no go on as a LPN (licensed practical nurse)

I'll just talk about one of the many culprits.........my eyes!!!!!

I worked under bright (Day glow) flouresent lights for 9-11 hours a day!!!

I used a computer as well.  My issue with the lights was so bad I would wear sun glasses

over my glasses!!! Drops do not help with light sensitivity----photophobia.

By the middle of the day my eyes were watering profusely, burning and I was squinting

or closed one eye to give it a break. Patients thought I was winking or upset and crying, sick,etc....

Back to the punctual plugs. I wore plugs in my lower tear ducts and it helped so much

to keep my eyes wet that I had my lower ducts cauterized shut. That has been over 4 years now.

However, moist eyes did not help me with the office lights.

I also get the same sensitivity when at stores, schools, other offices

but not in my own home where I can control what lights and how many we have on.

Maybe you do stare at the PC screen for too long and forget to blink as must as you should.

I feel for you, when your eyes are miserable it affects everything, distorts your vision

and makes you cranky.

I am presuming Restasis is not available in Australia.  It's pricey to buy and have shipped...well ...and that would require a visit to a country where it can be prescribed!

YEARS ago..DECADES ago, I used two products.  The first was awkward (but they have improved now) was a glare protector for your screen itself.  The other product was suggested by the business next door to where I worked: an optical shop.  They suggested glare tints for my glasses.  They helped so much.  When I remember these problems from so long ago, once again I ponder just how long  I had Sjogren's prior to dx.

We can get alcon naturale tears, systane ultra and systane balance here..AND from Amazon.  The naturale tears can be used frequently during the day.  The systane shouldn't be used over 4 times a day.

Good luck.

There are glasses are there that are made specifically for migraine suffers and fluorescent lights etc.  Below are the two companies.  I chose to order from axonoptics after researching both of their products.

I can actually open my eyes in the car now, instead of having them slammed shut because of the sunlight.  Going to the grocery store is much more pleasant.

I?m starting to use them with the computer today.

They also have different colors for low vision people like me.  That will be my next step to order a pair of those in boysenberry.

As far as drops go, I use Bion Tears which were specifically created for Sjogren?s patients.

You might also want to look into moisture chamber glasses.

If the office has air - conditioning, you need wrap around glasses.
See optician and have them made for you if you have vision problems too.
A C has to be the worst enemy of our's.
I gave up going to city centre shops because of it. It's every where now!
Drops wont help much in this situation,  but one still has to use drops to moisten .
It's a pain eh !   In sympathy, Dolly

Hubby's reference to castor oil drops may refer to Restasis which, I believe, is formulated with castor oil.

I use Systane Ultra in individual vials.  The bottles of drops have preservatives in them, which may be okay for occasional use.  But for multiple uses per day, I'd stick with individual preservative-free vials (even though I use them up over the course of a day).

Thank you for all your replies.
We can at lest sympathize with each other re the misery of working in an office, visiting shops.
I've found the FL41 migraine glasses tint helps me focus on the pc & of course is a help with the lights.  Still left with sore/gritty eyes though.
A nutritionist reckons mega doses of Vit A & B2 (right products) for my dry eyes which I began a couple of days ago.
Be interesting to see if things improve.
Will let you all know if there is vast improvement.
I know certain foods make my eyes worse & coconut oil which I love seems to be a culprit.
Maybe because I'm allergic to nuts.
I'll see if there's improvement without the coconut oil.
Using my glyconutrients has greatly helped most of my other sjogren's gifts!  Why not my eyes lol

LOTUS, check that your not short of Vit D, as this can help with dry eyes too.
                         Good luck, Dolly

So sorry to hear what you're going through.  Like you, all the drops in the world can't save my eyes if a furnace or a/c is running.  The only thing that saves me is goggles.  I've tried wrap-around glasses, etc., but nothing seals and keeps out the nasty heat and cold like goggles do.  Unfortunately, I know you can't where goggles while trying to work on your computer.  There are a lot of great suggestions from the other posters, though.

I, like a couple of other posters, had to give up work because of sjs.  My work involved a lot of travel, air travel, and computer work.  There wasn't any way I could drive 400/km with a truck heater on or no heat.

My fingers are crossed you'll find a solution.
