How my brain fog affects me

  Saw this today.

"I prefer not to think before speaking. I like being just as surprised as everyone else by what comes out of my mouth."

It's not really that I prefer to not think before speaking.  Even when I think, it's not always what comes out of my mouth.

Boy is that not the truth~I have tried to explain this to people and they just look at me like I'm nuts.  I will have to write this one down. Very timely with the holiday parties coming up~ thanks Jennifer for sharing.

Dear Jennifer,

Well, I've NEVER been a 'think before you speak' person because speaking is HOW I think.

I'm highly extroverted (think ENTJ in Myers Briggs) and talking is how I think.  My older son actually talks to himself as he works, because he is 'thinking out loud'.

Now, I have found very interesting and surprising ideas and connections come out of my mouth.  I know I'm going to say something, and some idea of the subject, what WHAT COMES OUT amazes me.

In fact, some of you have already concluded that I TYPE/TEXT exactly the same way.  I type/text very very fast (have been typing/texting for 62 years and have gotten good at it).  Therefore I actually think out loud by typing.  I don't always know what ideas will flow out of my fingers, any more than I know what will flow out of my mouth.

So far, I've been lucky.  And serious dementia or Alzheimer's hasn't set in yet.  But I don't think of it as brain fog.

I do find myself searching for information I KNOW I have (the plot of a book, the name of a movie) and can't find it.  That is frustrating.

But I figure I've just 'overloaded my memory' and haven't cleaned it out lately.  I try hard NOT to remember things and now that I have Google I know that retrieval is at the tips of my fingers!

However, I do NOT wish to make light of your brain fog, and neurological symptoms can been caused by Sjogren's and other Immune Mediated conditions...and they aren't just symptoms, they are actual changes of the brain.  I have some 'holes' in my white matter (gliosis) that are considered for me to be part of my age, but are also associated with memory changes.  Since there's nothing to do about it, I just file it away in the Google file!

I will talk to myself once in awhile.  Not a lot and friends have confirmed is is not much.
I had a friend ask me why I did that and I could only reply.

If it is coming out of my mouth, that leaves more room in my brain to think.   ;D ;)

Pisces that is just so perfect!

It leaves more room in my brain to think.

Of course, one of the reasons I attempt to meditate is to STOP THINKING.

Thinking is addictive for those of us who are high T's.  Thinkers.

Turning that off is very interesting...then I can hear the universe singing.
