I've been experience nausea for the past 2-3 months (currently experiencing a flare).  I'm not on any medications at this time and I'm not pregnant.  Is this a normal side effect of Sjogren's?  Just wondering why I feel so sick.

When I'm in a flare, I am always nauseas and have little appetite, even before I started meds, so it's normal for me.

Are you thinking of starting meds soon?  Plaquenil and Evoxac have been lifesavers for me.  Hope you're taking something for your Hashimoto's at least.

Hope you feel better soon!

Ditto what wildflower said...taking plaquenil and evoxac may help with some of the other symptoms.  I do have nausea off and on and have had every test in the book to look for reasons other than sjogrens...nothing else comes up.  I have a prescription for metoclopromide (? spelling) when those instances occur.  There is also a medication called zofran that is less sedating/does not make  you tired for nausea that can be used.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Sending positive thoughts your way.

I'm not anything for my Hashi's because it's not affecting my thyroid yet.  My levels are still normal.  I've used zofran for morning sickness during pregnancy, so I know how effective it is.  The nausea is still manageable (so far), but annoying.  It comes and goes too.  Thanks for your answers.

Learn something new everyday.  :)  Didn't know you could have normal levels with Hashi's.  Mine where way off before I knew I had it.

Hi missmeri and welcome to the forum. At the very beginning of my Sjogrens, before my diagnosis and previous to starting on any meds, I used to become nauseous out of nowhere and I had to run to the bathroom where I would vomit violently.

I remember that the doctor and the dentist who originally reviewed my case after diagnosis both asked me "have you begun to vomit yet?" What I took away from that was that nausea must be one of the symptoms of early Sjogrens.

I have never read anything that listed this as a symptom, but obviously there must be something to it or I don't believe that these medical professionals would have asked me such a question.

The good news is that I haven't had that symptom since I have been taking Plaquenil, Evoxac and my various other meds.

Hoping that you find some relief.

Good luck

I have gastroparesis and experience nausea every single day.  Quite a few people have slow motility with Sjogrens.  Mine is present every single day but some do have intermittent symptoms.  The medications you listed are ones they prescribe
for gastroparesis.  I take Domperidone and Zofran.  Domperidone has less side effects
than Reglan which is the name brand of the med prescribed for you.  You might want to consider and ask about a gastric emptying test.

Missmeri,

I too, have nausea every day or almost every day. I haven't a clue of what the cause is. I hate it. Between the fatigue & the nausea. I can make a choice to take a nausea med, help the nausea dissipate and then feel like sleeping on top of my desk or I can sit here (also unproductive) feeling horribly nauseous like I need to make a run to throw up at any minute. What a choice.  :P

Hope you find some answers & more importantly..some solutions!

Nausea is weird. When I was 20 something I once had a month that every single morning I was nauseated and it didn't resolve until the afternoon.  My boss joked if he didn't know me better, he'd swear I was pregnant. :o  Then it went away, no reason.

I know what you have or do not have on your stomach can cause it as well as medications.  Try foods that are very easily digested for a day or two and see if that helps.     If I am "under the weather" and don't eat, I feel nauseated due to nothing on my stomach.

Good luck with it!

SjoDry I feel just like you with the nausea. Then I don't want to eat. Don't really know what to do at those times. I do take Zofran at times. Hoping that when I see my new rheumy , there may be some answers. So tired of being tired!

Back in the late 80's and 90's I had a lot of nausea. In fact the late 9-'s early 2000's I had nausea for about 4-5 years straight. It would wake meup every morning about 4 AM or so and I could never go back to sleep. I could not stand to move much and if someone bumped the bed I would about croak.

I kept soda crackers on the bed side table. I tried every thing and went to the doc so many times and nothing helped. I finally started drinking 7-up with ice in the morning and sometimes even put a little orange juice in it. I also ate ginger snap cookies with the 7-up. This is a natural treatment as ginger has anti nausea properties and it does help.

This lasted so long and was always worse in the morning and I never got to sleep tip at leat 1-2 AM and I had to work in the morning so I was a walking zombie. Thankfully the nausea was less after lunch. I never vomited but just felt green in the gills big time. To this day I have daily nausea but not as bad as it was years ago. I wonder if my Prilosec doesn't help some. I just think and have read, that nausea is part of the autoimmune experience. Why am I not surprised. Hoe you get some help.

Also, my one doc did talk about taking my gallbladder out at one time, but my testing was normal. Irish
