I just found out I am about 4-5 weeks pregnant and I am so scared. It was completely unexpected and I just cant help but think of all the bad stuff that could happen. I am SSA and SSb positive and I have read a lot of that being more at risk for heart block and miscarriage among other things. Any one have any advice or experience with sjogrens and pregnancy?

I have no advice nor experience, but I'm thinking warm thoughts of you and sending you a virtual hug!  Congrats (even if scary) and I'm sure the doctors will take great care of you and yours!

Get your hopes high you're young. My second and last pregnancy was at 32 and I just rested and napped more. Eat plenty of fruits and veggies, and go to a prayer group in the faith you profess, prayer works!!!

The increase in risk is most likely very, very small. Get your OB to refer you to a high-risk specialist and see what s/he says.

Even with increased risk, the absolute risk is still very, very small. And any pregnant woman has some very small risk, so please don't let your Sjogren's stress you out unduly. That stress is potentially more of a risk than anything else.

Congratulations, and I know you'll be so filled with joy when your child arrives you'll forget all about your worries.

Hugs, Sharon

Congratulations JL23. I just got back from a visit with a friend of mine who just delivered her twin boys. Babies are such a joy. Please, try to relax, and stay positive. Just like the others said, stress is more dangerous than anything. You will do great!

Many hugs,
Nellie

Congratulations, JL23,

Take several deep breaths.

You will be fine.   You are OKAY.  I have read and studied about this for over 4 years.  I know you will be fine.

More deep breaths!

Take good care of yourself.  Relax.

Try meditation and relaxation.  The childbirth preparedness classes involve breathing and relaxing.

Start now.

Hugs,  Elaine

Thank you everyone!! Im starting to relax more and focusing in being happy for my new little blessing. I have noticed my sjogrens has been flaring up the last few day but ive just been trying to rest more and stay hydrated. I have 2 kids already and im pretty sure I had sjogrens already with my 2nd and did have some preterm stuff but im hoping with my dx ill be able to handle this pregnancy a little better.

Thank you again for all the positive feedback. My first ob appt is next week. Im so excited to see how my little bean is doing.

I am one of the old timers on this forum. I am 71 and for a time we had more of us and we all had been ill for many years and undiagnosed. I was ill when I was pregnant with all 3 of my children and they all came into the world ok. The third pregnancy I was really under the weather with all kinds of symptoms but the baby was fine.

I didn't know any better and did not know what could happen. It is best to just have faith and stay calm. Generally, what we worry about never happens and actually, the worrying causes stress and you and the baby don't need that. Hang in there--stay positive--keep up your doc appts and so what you are supposed to. That is all you can do and the rest is up to mother nature. That is the way it has always been and always will be. Good luck and keep us updated on things. Irish

My baby was born almost 3 yr ago. I was scared too....from 28 week on I had a ecograf once a week to check baby's heart. They can do something in case of problems....everything was ok.
Melissa was born with all my SSa and SSb antibodies.....what cause a deep neutropenia. When she was 18 months my bad antibodies gone away and neutrpenia desapears!
Now she is ANA negative. ;)
