Mouth irritation

Does anyone else get irritation in the mouth when eating tart fruits and foods? Yesterday I had to throw out a container of peach yogurt because of it (also irritated by things like ketchup). Years ago I quit eating lemon pies because I would get these weird little bubble-like blisters in the back of my mouth. I didn't know if this was sjs or just a sensitive mouth.

Well if you Google Sjogren's and tongue blisters, you will can look at all sorts of scary images.

What you are experiencing is related to your Sjogren's no doubt.

I don't have it, so I can't help.

I assume that there may be some sort of probiotic or rinse or something that will help?

Surely others will chime in.

The first thought is, if it hurts, don't do it.

Yeah, I know it's hard when it's something you like!

I've read in numerous sources "we" shouldn't consume acidic juices or foods. Thus, your ketchup and lemon.  I don't think of Peach as being citrusy (is that a word?).  I will drink a small glass of V-8 when I am out for breakfast/brunch with friends.  I will suck on a xylimelt in order to have  a monthly margarita.  ;)  When I have tongue or mouth probs, I swish orasoothe (avble. at Amazon.)  Now that I know about this effect , I have few oral probs as I once did.  Good luck. When your mouth is sore, you can't forget about it.  I remember.

You could have acid reflux and not even know it.  I have mouth sores/blood blisters all the time and Sjogren's in itself causes a burning tongue.  I don't really do anything for it.  Just wait till it passes.  May try that orasoothe that cc recommended.

Maria,

Just read your other post about neuropathy symptoms, and thought I should tell you that burning tongue is not common from Sjogren's by itself. Typically it is from thrush (secondary to Sjogren's) AND neuropathy.  Yes, Neuropathy causes burning mouth and there is a neuro condition called burning mouth syndrome as well.

You really should consider seeing a neurologist and tell him about ALL your symptoms.

Yep. I've had it for ages and I think it's gotten worse. Kiwis are seriously no-no for me. So is fresh pineapple. Sometimes fresh tomatoes burn my mouth. Strawberries may or may not cause it. These at least. Allergy tests show nothing. And this happens without thrush.

Thanks, Anita.  Did not know that.  I will definitely make an appointment with a neuro...probably tomorrow!
