Does anyone get trachycardia from evoxac or salagen?  My HR has been in the 110's consistently, BP is fine.  Before all this started my HR was usually 60's.  i thought it may have been the anti-depressant Fetzima I was started on but I haven't taken it in 2 days now and my HR is still high.  IDK how I could live without evoxac, the dry mouth is miserable for me and I'm only 33.  But I'm also afraid I'm going to end up having a heart attack.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked into the other drugs as a cause? I didn't have a HR monitor when I took either one of those drugs, however, I stopped because I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. My heart felt as though it was racing, but I can't be certain that it was.

You certainly don't want tachycardia, however, I can tell you that with my cushings, I sat around for 3 years with a resting HR of 110 and my heart is fine. Pulmonary doc said I have the heart of someone who could live to be 90... and as my rheumy says "If you wanted to." =)

I would look into the other drugs first. Antidepressants are known for this kind of thing. Make sure that the antidepressants are working for you. They did nothing but make me feel crazy and actually made me depressed.  Never felt suicidal until I was on an antidepressant.  Sometimes (most often times, truly) temporary situational depression is mistaken for a chemical imbalance. Just be careful.  Hope this helps a bit.

Mine goes up after Salagen for about 1-2 hours, and then it goes to normal. Have you ever looked into thyroid issues?

One of my early SJS symptoms was tachycardia. Um, I finally correlated it to chronic constipation. As long as things are moving fine, my HR doesn't spike. However, I also had developed paroxysmal hypertension at the same time. That too remains settled as long as "bum stuff" is kept running smoothly.

I agree with the other suggestion about having your thryoid checked. The week preceding my thyroid going Hashi's with a bullhorn, that was the dominant symptom: resting HR climbing higher every passing day. That and so was my body temp. All thyroid panels preceding that were normal.

Sounds like you have already reviewed your meds for a possible causal effect.

Yes, my family doc says as long as it doesn't go over 120.  I have been on Evoxac for seven years and the side effects do diminish.  I couldn't imagine going without Exovac either.  Talk to your doc.

DryGuy:  On evoxac.com ? The Official site you will see:

"Official pharmaceutical site with education and treatment information for patients and health professionals."

WARNING: Excerpt: ..."Can potentially alter cardiac conduction and/or heart rate  and more"

Here is an alternative suggestion which is acceptable to the medical world:

Rinsing your mouth with a good quality olive oil - a spoon or two (and swallowing it if you wish) can alleviate dry mouth.

I have a bottle of California grown first cold press olive oil.   This company lists harvest date and date of use.  This particular bottle is early harvest and has a different taste than most olive oil - a little bit more earthy.  I am told that early harvest contains more anti-oxidants.

Good for the mouth, teeth, periodontal and also the heart!

I wish you well.

Just a little tidbit for you. We had several gals on here with heart involvement from Sjogrens. It affected the electrical circuitry in the heart and they ended up with pace, akers, defibrillators, etc.

Do not panic, but if it was me I would stop taking the medication and see if the heart rate goes down. If it does you know what raised it. If it doesn't a visit to the doc is probably in order to check this out. If something is found of significance a cardiologist is always in order. Good luck. Irish
