Ok, this is so weird I have to post it:

Study links hunger, autoimmune diseases

Using genetically modified mice, the researchers showed that altering hypothalamic neurons to simulate satiety increased inflammation of body tissue. The finding helps explain how immune system-triggered inflammation often occurs after eating and carries implications for developing new treatments for autoimmune disorders, said senior author and comparative medicine professor Tamas Horvath of the Yale School of Medicine.

Horvath said he hopes to conduct studies in humans and non-human primates to show whether promoting hunger can suppress autoimmune diseases. By controlling food intake and the level of hunger subjects reach during the daily cycle, he said he should be able to modulate immune inflammatory responses.

Now, I don't know about YOU, but this makes me crazy go nuts!

Now I need to be HUNGRY?  As well as fatigued, depressed and in pain, and itching and burning?  ACK!

Oh,maybe INSTEAD of being fatigued, etc.  But HUNGRY?

Oh well.  It's always something.....and then it's something else (like taking away my lunch!?)

Hugs, Elaine

This is funny..I always felt better not eating anything..it seems by body just overacts to everything I put in it..almost like an allergy. I don't care what it is either. Ive been eating more than norm and feel absolutely ill..and flaring.

Think Im going to fast awhile. I always feel better, and makes my tummy feel better too.

thanks for this.

Oh Dearest Gursie,

My entire approach to everything in life has been 'to eat a little something'.

Unless I was actively vomiting, even with severe nausea I was SURE that eating the right thing would help:
salty
sweet
crunchy
sour,
hot,
creamy
cold
meaty
chocolate
alcohol
nuts
round and round the types of foods, trying to cure what ailed me with food.

Nothing ever made me worse, and of course some times I felt comforted and happy for a while.

I still enjoy my food, for sure.  And the IDEA of going hungry to be healthy is completely alien to my very core of being.

Oh well.

I have struggled and struggled to stay at 184, 5'9".  I have to watch every bite, count every bite, and meditate and relax to keep from eating everything thing in sight.

I find this article a horror show.  And yet, the theory I didn't copy and paste attributes our increase in autoimmune conditions to our super nutritious (read high calorie) diet.

I agree with you, Elaine.

The article in my view seems to be dancing around any real interest of a correlation between inflammation, hunger and AI. Actually, comes across as Yale got a nifty research grant and had to come up with something on the fly to justify with.

This par from article:
QuoteHorvath said he hopes to conduct studies in humans and non-human primates to show whether promoting hunger can suppress autoimmune diseases. Um, isn't a primate non-human to begin with?

And as for diet, the SAD (Standard American Diet) is rife with all manner of additives, "natural flavourings" (that is an oxymoron, as if it were "natural" then why have to add it?) and the list on that is endless.

And promoting hunger as a POSSIBLE way to suppress AI? What a crock!!  Especially looking at the other hand given the state of current economic conditions for MANY of us, I don't think hunger needs to be promoted under a warm fuzzy blanket of "go hungry and your AI could get better."

A number of us on fixed income who have had to go off the SAD are well familiar with hunger.

What a horror show is right.

I think this is just the rewording of what we talk about all the time (not you Caroline, the research study), that some of us have discovered certain foods promote inflammation within us.

Nope - humans are primates too. The taxonomic Order "Primates" includes humans, great apes, lesser apes, monkeys, and prosimians (tarsiers, lemurs, and lorises). All of us share a common group of ancestors. This is why comparing human anatomical and biochemical conditions to non-human primates is usually considered more useful (if, perhaps, less ethical) than using a more-distant mammalian relative like mice. The closer genetic relationship arguably makes the research more applicable to human beings.  (DISCLAIMER: I am not a fan of ANY kind of animal research and feel it needs to be severely restricted, PARTICULARLY in primates because they are generally smart and social, and easily traumatized by captivity.)

As for this hunger thing - COME OOOOOONNNNN!!!!! SERiously?! Don't we suffer ENOUGH?!  >:(  :(  :P

The first thing that came to mind as I read the article was "Hunger Games". Not the movie content, rather the concept of hunger

Oh gosh!  I am a small size gal and didn't hit over 100 lbs until after college. I've always been "small" and I try to stay 110-115 lbs weight thought I would LOVE to be taller.  This is the weight my primary dr wants me at. I'm one of the few folks that don't get hungry very often. I am usually telling myself it is lunch time, etc. Time to eat. Weird I know.

Gosh if I got under 100 lbs my primary dr would have a FIT and so would my oncologist.  I did get under 100 for awhile when I was on chemo and I felt like c#@p.

They must have just previously done some study on obesity as they "say" a lot of people are overweight.  Heck I don't feel hungry most of the time and I got Sjogrens and some years later lymphoma. ::)  I totally disprove this theory.

I should write to em and give em a piece of my mind - that is really all I can spare. ;)
