Well - I've finally slung my sling but my arm is still quite a way from good working order. I am doing the physiotherapy I have been told to and have been signed up for a six week (one session a week) humerus fracture group physio session thing.

I have been left with a tremor in my hand which is really disconcerting. Medical opinion is totally divided as to whether the tremor actually has anything to do with the fracture. Seeing the GP about it this week at the physiotherapist's insistence. Why there cannot be joined up medicine' is beyond me. Fracture clinic is dealing with broken arm. Hand on end of said arm appears to need a different department

I so want full use of my right hand back!! I can at last manage to blow my nose using it but can't reach my head to wash my hair yet. It's been a long year!!

Take care - Scottie  :)

You have been through so much with your arm.it sounds like you have had some improvement and I am glad to hear that. I met a woman recently who fell a few months back and fractured both arms and she said she still can't wash her hair or lift her arm all the way. She is doing therapy a few times a week. As for the tremor, is there a possibility that the nerve is affected?

I hope that your recovery and therapy goes well. I would definitely feel frustrated and miserable if I were in your place but it looks like you are doing as well as can be expected.
Sending support your way.

Good to hear from you Scottie. It has been a long year for you. I really hope someone can come up with a reason for the tremor. HAs anyone suggested a nerve conduction study? I don't know just a stab in the dark. I know nerves can take a very long time to heal after inflamed. Good luck and keep us posted. CK

Hi

Actually the surgeon who actually operated asked me why I hadn't had a nerve conduction test. I answered that I had told docs several times at appointments that I was worried about the tremor but no one referred me for a test. Unfortunately I have not seen the actual surgeon since but will be asking my GP about it.

I cannot imagine breaking BOTH arms! That must have been just awful!

Take care - Scottie  :)

Scottie, I am glad that you are doing as well as you are but sorry that you have this tremor. Too long with that bone in a non-healing position I would guess resulting in some nerve pressure damage.

Also, glad that you can blow your nose---an "no" I can't imagine breaking both arms. One would have more to worry about than blowing the old nose, wouldn't they. Good luck. irish

Scottie - good to hear that you have gotten rid of the sling - I know you've been waiting a long time for that.

Good luck with your therapy - I hope as the weeks progress that your range of motion will vastly improve and get you closer to being back to 100% use of your right arm.

Wishing you continued success as your arm continues to mend.

Hopefully, you can get some answers as to the tremor at your app't. this week.

Here is what my neurologist wrote about my tremor during our last visit.  I thought some of this information may help you out.

Recheck of Tremor is described as the following:

The onset of the tremor has been gradual and has been occurring in a persistent pattern for years.  The course has been constant.  The tremor is described as moderate.  Note for Tremor:  Tremor likely secondary to autoimmune disease.  Tremor responding to clonazepam.

Good luck with your therapy.

Dear Scottie,

Thanks for posting an update on your arm. It seems to be small steps forward, but after the drawn out process before your operation, it will probably take time for your arm to heal completely.

I hope your doctors follow through with the nerve testing, if need be, could you see the surgeon again for a followup appointment?

Take care Scottie, hope it's feeling better soon.
