Hospitals calling for donations

I feel that this is an abuse of the patient. The names of patients should be confidential and not provided for phone solicitation.

I just received a phone call asking for a donation to the hospital from a professional fundraising organization. How much goes to the organization and how much to the hospital? I said no to the person on the phone. It felt like a shake down call. To end the call, I expressed my concern that it took them from 2000 until now to figure out what was wrong and hopefully fix it.

Modern Western Medicine has designed itself as a big money enterprise. I know that they may be stuck with some bills. I have heard from an administrator that it is a very small portion of their profit. With the double and triple billing that I have seen I do not think they are in need of additional donations.

Wow, Joe, that sounds kind of scam-ish to me. I wonder if somebody is just calling random numbers, trying to get people to make cash donations or electronic donations.  I would call the hospital and make a complaint.  You might be able to keep some sweet old person from making a bad decision.

Oh Gosh. ALWAYS ask how much % goes to the "cause".  I got a call from a Cancer group and only 20% of the funds went to Cancer and the rest to "fund raising".  The MOST it should be is 20% cost for fund raising.  I always ask.

I agree with you. They should not be "selling your info" for fund raising. I guess you have to ask to be taken off their list.

Likewise with any solicitation on the phone. The proper response is "Take me off your call list." There are so many scams! They use names that sound like a legitimate charity.

Joe, I have to add that EVERYBODY IS CALLING FOR DONATIONS!!!!!! Yes, I am hollering.

I am so sick of everybody and their brother calling for money. I have gotten so I interrupt them and tell them that I don't take calls from anyone and that I am going to hang up. They are totally shocked---and then I hang up. Honestly, if we gave money to only the ones that were honest and really needy we would not be able to buy groceries. It just bugs me.

One day I got into a discussion with a political party call. I finally told him that it was totally ridiculous for all these PACS and groups to all be calling for money for the same party. I think that each party that determines to have a candidate for the election should have one organization and collect only through that one---no double dipping, overlapping, etc. Well, guess what. That is illegal. Go figure. Irish

I think all this is just going to get worse. Our county hospital shut down, and has been for over a year now. They are suppose to reopen again, but it will be more as a day treatment facility.

Many doctors are quitting due to all the new health care, etc. Learned this first hand.
