Swollen Neck

The lymphnodes or something in the right side of my neck are swollen. It's really quite strange. Hurts to twist my neck certain directions so I've just been avoiding moving it for the past couple of days. This is my fourth/third day with this problem. I did just come back from vacation in Puerto Rico. Could the sun exposure have anything to do with it? Is it Sjögrens related? Can anyone post links to helpful articles or relate to a similar experience with a swollen neck?

My mom wanted me to post here and ask so I figured I'd give it a try.

Hi, see you have got Sjogrens, so this possibly could be from it. Tho' seeing you have been to another country it would be wise to have it checked out. Do you feel ok otherwise?   Try massaging the spot with your fingers. it could possibly be a blocked salivary gland. which can and does happen with us..  Hope someone comes up with more concrete advice.   Dolly

Hi  :)

The glands in your neck can swell for so many reasons. If they are causing you enough pain that you cannot turn your head I think you should ask your doctor about it.

When I was a kid my glands used to swell up every time I ran a fever, if I got spots on my head, any virus/infection that cropped up. Sometimes I needed antibiotics sometimes I didn't.

You could also have developed sensitivity to the sun.

Hope you get to the bottom of what's happening.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Thanks you guys :)

My primary care doctor seems to think it's an infected lymph node. He gave me some antibiotics, but told me to check with my rheumatologist to make sure it's not Sjögrens related. I'm just happy this irregularity popped up over break and not while I was at college.

Hi oescharao,

Let me welcome you, since I've not done that.  (Please forgive me, I am so behind in this- :P)

"Welcome!!"
Good to hear you got to the primary doc and they started an antibiotic.  That may be all you need, however I'd take their advice, of course, about seeing the rheumy.

We all have different things happen, and a swollen neck can be common. Mine seems to come and go from day to day; sometimes more sore than others.  And I've had a couple infected lymph nodes or parotid glands. A course of antibiotics usually takes care of it.

Take care of yourself, and as you say, at least the timing was good that you're not in school right now. Hopefully, you'll be feeling fine when it's time to go back.
Welcome again to our group.  We look forward to hearing more from you.  :D
