Does anyone know what this is? It is in the crack at the back of my knee, near the inner edge. It is intermittent, but pretty painful at times. I've had a Baker's cyst in the past, but this feels different.

Spasms? They can be severe like nerve pain. Is your knee swollen at all?

I had something like this yesterday as I started to drive my car but it was on the front right side of the left knee.  It was sharp but not a joint pain.  Nor was it muscle.  Husband asked if it was a charlie horse and I said no.  It wasn't like any other charlie horse I experienced.  In about 5 minutes it was gone.  I get pains.  They come and go often.  Just rather annoying.  Sometimes I hate that they go away so fast because nobody really knows what I'm talking about.

Hi Kathy  :)

I think you should ask your doc about it and possibly get an x-ray. It could be OA even although the pain is at the back. It may not be though, but would be worth asking about.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi folks

Thanks for your replies.

Scottie, I had my knees and hips xrayed last month. The knees don't show any damage, but the hips do, particularly my right one. The rheumy wanted to refer me to an orthopaedic surgeon. I refused for now, as there's no way I could consider another surgery. And the hip pain is manageable, especially with Tramadol at night.

The knee pain is very sharp when it happens and hurts a lot, but then it disappears. It's not like cramp, or the muscle spasms that make my toes curl from time to time. I do have a very prominent vein in that area, so wonder whether that could be the cause. I will check it out next time I have to see the GP.

I have had that pain when I drive.  It is in the back of right knee.  It really hurts.  I wondered if it had to do with my sciatic nerve.  I will ask the rheumy next time.  Let me know what you find out.
