Thanks.  I read the spoon theory and saved it on pdf so I'd be able to find it (knowing I'd never get it again when I wanted it, lol).  My mom may be worth trying that with.  I have largely put my in-laws at arms length and only let them get so close to me because of callouss and harsh attitudes they took towards me early on when my depression was dx 20yrs ago.  They've told my husband how 'selfish' I am to need his help so much at times over our 22 year marriage.  Neither of my parents will spent time with them because of it.  I understand it's best just to keep them at bay and take them in small doses.  We all enjoy each other so much more that way (translation = everyone behaves on short visits and gets out before any damage occurs).

Blue, your in-laws sound like really pathetic people. Small doses, and only when there are a bunch of buffer people around is how I mange my husband's mother. Really, really small doses... For what it is worth, depression is a common issue with autoimmune disease, and not because of the diagnosis.

One day your in-laws will be sick, and the good news is that they will hate themselves for their weakness. Or blame you. Either way, who cares?

Hang in there, Blue! If you are too ill to spend time with them, oh, well.
