Winnie,
I have the HH and the unrelenting reflux with no relief from PPI's also.  To top that off, I was gaining water weight rapidly from the Pantoprezole.  Doc took me off that and started me on Carafate about 10 days ago.  It is helping me so much that I can't believe it.  I hope I can keep taking it without side effects!!

Carafate is making a huge difference for me!

Thanks for the suggestions!!  It looks like I am going to try to persuade my husband to put some blocks under the bed.  It is a king size bed and I am not sure he will be easily persuaded.

I guess the next thing to do is see if I could get a change in rx, whether it is a new PPI or carafate.  I have a call into the gi doc for test results and they should be calling me back tomorrow.  I will discuss my concerns then.

Last night I also had a "stomach" attack.  I thought it was a bladder infection so I tracked up to the primary today and I don't have a bladder infection.  Really, I was in pain, lower middle abdomin, tried to throw up, broke a sweat and tried to pass out but no luck.  Stupid stomach . >:(

hi Winnie,

i take precription zantac- 150 mg - one at breakfast - the other befoe dinner..

what saved me is mastic gum capsules..i take 2 every am on ampty stomach and dont eat for an hour..

i also take probiotics -and digestive enzymes with all meals...

doing well- cant handle ppis... i have no digestion on those and i get heachaches and feel nasty...

hope you find your "cocktail" that works

also i have the phelm issue= found that taking singuilar in the am and zyrtec at dinner helps and when that gets too bad i take a couple musinex pills

drinking alot of water also helps-= when i get the burning feeling im usually not drinking enough

I have given Carafate over the years when working as a nurse. I have also taken it many times when I have exacerbations of my reflux.

Carafate is an under used drug. It works so well but the docs seem to forget about it. When you take it you do have to make sure that you aren't taking any drugs that will interact. Be sure to talk with your pharmacist about it. Thanks! IRish

Today, I finally got my test results back.  All biopsies were negative.  :)  I have mild inflammation in the stomach and duodenum.  I have eosinophilic esophagitis which I had to look up.  Another dumb thing to add to my list.  I also have grade A GERD.  So I guess my hietal hernia does not exist?  I forgot to ask about that.  I probably was mis-diagnosed years ago.  The eosinophilic thing can be caused by GERD, food allergies...... I still wonder if this parasite in my intestines that my GI does not think is important is causing some of this inflammation and food intolerances.  :-\

I wish I had a competent doctor when I was growing up.  Oh well, you can't cry over spilt milk.  I just wish it wasn't me.
