Hoarse voice

Does anyone get a hoarse, gravely voice? And if so, is it related to Sjogren's?

I also have GERD and my GP attributed it to that, but I'm just curious.

Yes, and it was thought to be related to Sjogren's. I was also told I have vocal cord dysfunction on top of having hoarseness from being dry.

i thought it was from allergies, i also cant swallow food sometimes without a drink

Yes, I do, I loose it for no good reason, I call it my sexy voice. It will come and go. I can feel my throat is dry but drinking does not help much either. I was told not to clear my throat when it happens...too hard on the vocal cords.

I get it too.  Its the sjogrens.

Same here.  When talking on the phone at work, I'll develop a tickle in my throat because it dry and then lose my voice altogether.  Taking a few sips of water helps.

I am raspy more often than not. I suspect the SJs

THyroid issues can also make the voice hoarse and raspy. Many of us have both the sjogrens and the thyroid issues. Also, people with the sjogrens have the GERD and this can add fuel to the fire.

So, basically, it doesn't really matter what causes it---we got it!!!! Mine lasted many years and it would hurt to talk. My vocal cords were also often swollen and inflammed which was though to be from reflux, unless you were an ENT which thought it was from autoimmune.

Since I have been on the IVIG my voice is hoarse but not as bad as it used to be for some reason. Strange, cause if anything I am more dry than ever. Oh well, can't change it. Sip fluids to keep the throat and vocal cords moist and suck on lozenges. Irish

I have what I call a "whiskey voice" or "smokey voice" and think SJS is a lot to do with it.  I also think sinus problems and throat/sinus drainage can add to the problem.

I have two sisters and we all have this "whiskey voice."
