Test Results - something new

Hi Everyone,

My daughter has just had her 6 monthly check with her immunologist and while many of her tests came back the same as usual - ANA 1280 speckled, positive SSA, positive DNA, etc, there was one test I had never seen before - Reticulocytes.

Her reading is low -  5 (range 20-80) at 0.12%

Has any one heard of this test?  Should she be on any medication for this?

I know from Dr Google it has something to do with the new red blood cells made by her bone marrow. This is the first time in 5 yrs she went to an appointment on her own and she's not saying anything about it. Her specialist hasn't been the best at explaining things in the past and my daughter is not too good at asking questions either.

Her Haemoglobin and other blood count results are all within range, but at the lower end of normal.

I hope people on here might know something about this test.

I don't know. I did a quick search too. I guess there could be lots of things including anemia. However, it also said that the doctor has to look at all kinds of factors and their overall health, including any auto immune diseases.

So your daughter won't tell you what the doc said? Does she seem stressed, nervous or secretive?  Or maybe he just said it was no big deal?  What the doctor thinks should be your best bet.

Sorry I don't have any answers for you.  Maybe. Someone else will come along that knows.

I don't think the Dr talked about it during her appointment so it may be no big deal. It's just a bit concerning to see number so far below the normal range.
