Some wonderful Rheumatology people conducted a small study on cognitive problems and Sjs!  :)

The Oxford Journal: Rheumatology
"We found WM abnormalities in the INF, which were associated with cognitive deficits and correlated with both the severity of cognitive symptoms and objectively measured cognitive performance in PSS."
http://rheumatology.oxfordjournals.org/content/49/8/1530.full

This study concluded that caffeine has promising therapeutic value in certain neuro-inflammatory diseases. Though Sjogrens wasn't included, it's still interesting. Remember I'm one who drinks a lot of coffee every day for the moderate boost it gives to my cognitive abilities. I suspect I'm really onto something here!  :D

If your concentration isn't up for reading through all the details, scroll to the bottom and read the summary in the conclusion.

Thus my behavior is supported!! I have to have my diet Mt. Dew in the morning after breakfast to kick start me for the day. I drink decaf coffee and tea so I need my caffeinated pop. I could not exist with out this caffeine a couple of times a day. Irish ;D

For better or worse I have to admit that I enjoy my coffee all year long, and just got through buying some different tea bags for relaxing I guess. lol.... I am not sure.

I have been prescribed different stimulants for energy, which also help with cognitive issues - for example, Dexedrine and Provigil. They really do help (sort of super coffee), though I can not take them on a daily basis, as they also leave my heart racing. However, I tend to be sensitive to that type of drug, and they may help for some.

For a few years I avoided caffeinated coffee, tea, soda because it caused the interstitial cystitis to flare up. This fall, I threw caution to the wind, went to Starbucks & ordered a soy latte. Hooked since then! I feel so much better when I have a "reasonable" amount of caffeine, and strangely, my bladder is ok with this plan! I had noticed that my cognition has been better, but hadn't particularly connected that with the caffeine. Maybe it is helping my brain, too:)
