Artsy,

I'm a little late with my post, but yes, it's totally normal to be sent for a Mental Evaluation with a pscych. for your SSA disability case.  It's part of the process, and if you're like me, it might help the case.

I assumed also that I was sent because depression was part of my dx, along with my statements of confusion, memory loss and problems concentrating and speaking.  It didn't take long, and as Lucy wrote, they asked me things like who's the President, what day is it, etc.  Also asked me to repeat a set of numbers and count backwards by 3s from 21; and I couldn't do it!
They let me explain a bit how my mental status had changed since I had become ill and how it affected my daily life~ so I think it did help me.

Don't worry; just go through it and be honest with the answers to the best of your ability and you'll be fine. ;)
