Helpful hint for all humidifiers

Someone on another thread posted that her humidifier started leaking. I had one do that to me one time and it was on my living room carpet. I caught it before it soaked through too much.

This did get me thinking that leaking could happen anyway, anytime and anyhow.

I solved the problem by buying one of those big clear plastic storage containers that are rectangular in shape and about 8 inches high on the sides. I bought one that was large enough that no matter what size humidifier I had the container would still be big enough.

This has been just the best thing for me. I have to clean it out periodically as it will get water marks and dust in it and in the summer there may be an occasional dead bug. It helps get rid of the worry of leakage forever. Just thought this might be some useful information. Irish ;D

I set mine on a large cookie pan with a towel underneath:-)

 I never thought of any of this. I always complained about how the humidity ruins my tables and nightstands.  Thanks for the advice. Im definatly gonna start doing that.

I use a rubbermaid boot tray under my humidifier, it seems to do the job of containing leaks just fine.

i need a humidifier...both mine, bought very short space apart just bailed out of me and the job! in other words, they died!
i am in ireland so anyone who knows about these things from this neck of the woods, i would love ideas of makes etc preferably ones that will stay the course with me and not give up too soon....
