Brought my dry dry eyes to wet Wellington one week ago---visiting family here, and this is my first time in NZ. Walking walking up and down hills--phew!---tired feet and calves but SO happy to be here. Doing OK with the SjS so far, but my eyes are a bit weirded out---especially the skin around them was shockingly puffy for a few days. I was curious to see if coming to a humid place would make my eyes feel wetter, but they're just about the same at night but more comfortable during the day. At least it's not winter here, and not so blazing sunny---hardly have to wear my fit-over sunglasses.

Hello to anybody here who's a NZ-er!

Calli66 - how exciting to get away for a bit on vacation.   ;D

It's nice to get away once in a while.

Did your eyes improve any the longer you were there?

You'll have to update us on your trip - let us know what you did, what you saw.

Are you back home now?

Hi Calli

You are SO LUCKY!  Where have you been travelling - both islands?  Mountains?  Beaches?  How did you cope with the flight and the time change?

I would love to go to New Zealand.  My daughter went there in her gap year between school and university and she absolutely loved it.  The scenery is glorious, the people kind and laid back.  (I promise you I don't work for NZ tourist board!)

It's so sad that they've suffered this year with repeated earthquakes.  There have been adverts here in the UK for key workers needed in Christchurch on the South Island of NZ to help rebuild the city.  It's just a pity there was no call for a 51 year old woman in a wheelchair!

Have a wonderful holiday - Chickpea

Hey, I don't think they want a 62 year with SjS, either! I had to fly back early on Dec 16---my mother fell and broke her arm (she's 98)----this happened the day we left for NZ, unfortunately.  She couldn't use her walker as her hand swelled up, so my sister-in-law temporarily took her to hospice urgent care and then on to a nursing home. I just couldn't stay in NZ while she was going through all this, so I flew home. We got her back home to her own place today. Seemed like a better thing to do---she wasn't getting any exercise there. It helps that she is still mentally sharp, and is motivated to improve.

More about NZ later...I had a wonderful 10 days in and around Wellington, and a cut-short (one day) visit to the South island---even saw 2 little penquins in Omaru.

PS The skin around my eyes is practically disintegrating---had to use SO MUCH gel and goggles for the flights both ways (dry dry dry) that the skin is alternately bubbling up with fluid or peeling. I guess I didn't get used to the humidity in NZ---there were so many other things my eyes were reacting to---new plants, flowers, lack of sleep, etc. But what the heck, I was in NZ, and I'm not complaining.
