Hello
I am 46 so I know my hot flashes could be hormonal but could they also be related to the SJS/
they are horrible and i an drenched at night

Carolina

Hi angel,

I was fully POST menopausal at age 41, and had horrendous hot flashes for years and years thereafter.

Now I have some sort of terrible sweating in my head...maybe related to Salagen, maybe related to difficulty regulating body temperature as part of neuropathy.

Who knows.

Sigh

I am 32 and I get hot flashes that are definitely not hormonal! I'm nowhere near perimenopause even - I do attribute it to all the crazy autoimmune stuff that is going on with my body.
SLE and SjS with PN. ANA >1:1280 speckled,
SS-A >8.0, RF positive. Botox for migraines, Clonazepam, Zoloft, Imitrex for migraines, CellCept 1000 mg, Plaquenil 200 mg, Restasis, Zofran for nausea, Gabapentin, Evoxac and Norco for pain.

It is my understanding that our "thermostats" are broke.  That's why the hot flashes.  Sometimes we can go from hot to cold.  Just another surprise gift from Sjogrens.

My menopause was surgically induced two years ago when I had a full hysterectomy. Unfortunately, the Sjogren's symptoms came almost simultaneously. I feel as though I have a "broken thermostat", but I can't say for certain what is causing the hot flashes. My pain management doctor sells his own vitamins and such. When he found out about my hot flashes, he urged me to buy one of his products, "Healthy Woman." I thought it was another "snake oil", but when I ran out, after using it for 2 months, I was a mess! I had not given the pills credit for my recent lack of hot flashes, but it was/is taking the flashes almost completely away. These pills are made for menopausal women, which leads me to conclude that the flashes are hormonal and not neurological. Perhaps the pills work for both? I can see if these pills, or the equivalent of, are available online, if you're interested in trying them.

Peace and blessings to you,

Hi Angel,
I am like Andrea, my nightsweats went away when I started taking this herbal supplement. And just like like Andrea, when I stopped taking them for a week when I ran out, oh boy! Did I get the sweaty head thing back.

I dont know if it is hormonal or not. I am only slightly perimenopausal. But the stuff I am taking is by Natural Factors and is called MenoSense. It has a combo of, dong quai, chasteberry, black cohosh ect. It has been a life saver fir me. I sleep better now too.

So to answer your question about whether this is sjs related or  hormonal, I dont know. Probably both.

I only really notice the "hot flashes" when sleeping.  I'm always cold or feeling cold when I'm awake.  But when laying down and/or sleeping, I wake up all wet with sweat.  It is awful.  I'm 46 too.  I'm thinking that the pre-menopause (my sister was this age) is starting and may be what has caused this "flare."

Hi  :)

Another one here with hot flushes. They happen day and night - but night is worst. They wake me up. My menopause is long gone. I told the rheumy and the neurologist my thermostat is broken. They don't pay much attention to it though.

Take care - Scottie  :)

My doctors said even though some women think they are past menopause, etc..our hormones are changing all the time...hot flashes are usually from falling estrogen levels.

I've been menopausal for at least five years, and I still have to take hormones every single day. If I don't, I'll have 20-30 hot flashes a day. Yes, that's one or more every hour. They're worse at night. I can't even miss three or four days without having the hot flashes come back.

And when I say hot flashes, I mean HOT! It starts in my neck and goes up my face until I'm dripping with sweat and the skin on my face looks like it's gotten a chemical burn - raw and burnt. You can hold your hand near my face and feel the heat.

But still my feet are like ice.   :-\

Has anyone ever experience a burning sensation when someone touches you?  My husband would put his hand on my thigh when we were sleeping and it would feel like he was branding me with his hand.  I felt like I was going to see a permanent burn mark anywhere that he would place his hands for more than a few seconds. We are a very cuddly couple when sleeping.  But in the last few years, I couldn't handle him touching me!  I love him touching me but I couldn't handle it.  It is hard for him to understand and we've lost a sense of intimacy because of it.  I can only imagine his sense of rejection and it does greatly sadden me as he cannot understand how it affects me physically.
