New Symptom - What should my next step be update

The burning in the nose has not been to bad the last 2 days. Almost felt normal. Now I have some numbness, tingling, burning and redness
below the nose including the lips and area below the lips.

This must be neuropopathy. I have made an appointment with a rheumy for Thursday. Will the rheumy be able to help with this problem?

Hi Namakb,

I mentioned a symptom like this (numbness in the lips and tongue) and he gave me a fearful look.  I guess it is not a good symptom.  He asked if it had gone away and I said "yes" which brought a relieved look, but no information. Not sure what he was thiinking. I will bring it up at my next visit which is next week. I have had these symptoms a few time since. Let's compare notes after our visits! I hope yours improves and you are not in any pain. -hjane

I think I posted about this on another thread. You should see a neurologist for assessment of this condition. He may be able to put you on some medication that will help with the problem. The rheumatologist probably will have little to say about this.

Also, if you are having significant neuropathy the neurologist may want to put you on a drug like cellcept or imuran to halt the autoimmune attack on your body.  Good luck. Irish

Thanks Irish. You did say you thought it might be neuropathy but did not mention going to a neurologist so I thought the rheumy could help. I might just go to my primary Dr. and see what he says as I do not want to waste money going somewhere they cannot be of help.

Went to my primary Doc and he gave me Sertraline 50mg for stress. He said he does not know what a neurologist could do for my problem but I could see the Rheumy for my pain and if I think I could have sjogrens.

I called the neurologist and talked with the person who makes the appointments. She said she never heard of anything like my problem being treated by a neuro but would ask the doctor and get back to me. Probably not until Monday though.

I guess I will have to try the rheumy but hopefully I will hear from the neuro's office.

Thanks, Jazzlover. That may indeed have been what he was thinking, especially since my mother had "MS" and it is on the chart.  A number of doctors have suspected MS over the years. I'm pretty sure it is not that.

Sorry I have no new information to offer. This was the first visit with this rheumy. She pondered this, but wanted to discuss it again at our follow-up appointment in a few months.  I think she is looking for a pattern or persistence. I have so many symptoms that come and go, it is hard to tell which ones will come back.  I agree to wait and see. Perhaps it is related to recent dental work or an old neck injury or even TMJ. Not sure at this point. I hope that things are going better for you. -hjane
