I need to lose some weight and my GP has suggested I try the modified Atkins Diet - he will supervise it. So, after I've done the food shopping this weekend, I'm going to give it a try.

Has anyone else tried it? Any tips? Any ideas for meal plans?

Joe S.

I saw some loose almost 200 pound in 2 years by eating 5 big meals per day. I had no idea how he could eat so much.

Others have used Atkins and liked it but it is for life and they went back to their old ways.

I try to eat 5 small meals per day. All the water I drink help to slowly loose weight. Like everything else, find what works for you.

A lot of those diets are low starch (bread, flour, sugar) which is usually a really good thing.  Some of them limit vegetables (like broccoli) because of the carbs in them.  My feeling is that modified Atkins that's ramped up in green and colorful veggies is probably a good thing.  And as Joe says, it's a lifestyle, but a worthy one.

Thanks Joe and Sooki

My book about the MAD arrived today. I've been trying to plan out my food plan for the next few days, but it does seem counter intuitive - I've been previously looking at low fat options for many years. Clearly that hasn't worked, so now my diet is about to be turned on it's head, but hopefully, the results will be worth it.
