Dearest Angels,

After successfully defeating a chronic UTI that took 2.5 years to beat into submission, I now have ANOTHER UTI.

After 1.5 years without a UTI, it's baaaaaaaaaaack.

I'm just feeling overall miserable, achey and tired and sort of skin burning........more than usual, of oourse.

Cause I don't feel good, have the puppy and hubby will be late getting in from the airport this afternoon, I'm feeling very sorry for myself.

Waaaaaaaa.

OK that's it.

Hugs

Hi Elaine

I'm so sorry to hear this. Hopefully you will defeat this one more quickly by using whatever it was that helped you to defeat the last one! Hope you feel better soon. UTIs are miserable.

Take care - Scottie

Thanks for the encouragement, Scottie,

I never had a UTI until I was 65!

And that's when we finally found out that I have IC.

Cause the UTI's hang on for dear life and hurt like heck!

Heating pad for my back, coming up.

Thanks for the TLC.

Hugs

Hi Elaine,
I am sorry about your uti! I get lots of them & they are miserable:(
Sometimes I take pyridium for the pain which helps a bit.

We have something else in common, I enjoy puppy-sitting my "grand-dog", too!

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Carolina,

Have you ever tried the D-mannose?  It might help as a preventative . . . if you do a search on this forum for it, you can get the info. I think there are a few other people on this forum who mentioned they use it PRN or chronically as a preventative.

So sorry to hear you are going through this; I can't imagine living with chronic UTI's.  I hope you can clear this one up soon, though!

Patty

UG! I have IC and have a lot of trouble with UTIs so I sympathize. I really really hate them.  I took a preventive antibiotic for years which worked well. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Elaine - how frustrating! I am so sorry. I wish I had a magic wand. I'd wave it and make EVERYONE on this board whole and well again. It sure seems like you've had more than your fair share of troubles lately. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers today and this week. It seems my prayer list has gotten really long lately. There are a lot of hurting people out there. PLease rest up and take care. Whine all you want. We'll be here to listen.

Hi Elaine,

I can sympathize with how you feel with the chronic UTI's as I have had to deal with this over the last couple of years too...and I never had one before in my life either until a few years back...then they just wouldnt go away. I was and am again on a maint low dose antibiotic which does help  me.

I hope you can get yours resolved asap and get the treatment you need. They are absolutely no fun!!

ACKACKACK

This  morning my marvelous Rheumatologist called me at home AGAIN!  Third time since I first saw her less than a week ago.

She told me that Macrobid, the antibiotic I took for 2.5 years to get rid of my UTIs, can cause NEUROPATHY!

NEUROPATHY that doesn't go away when you stop the medication.

OMG is that WHY is have neuropathy??????

http://www.drugs.com/pro/macrobid.html

Neuropathy:

Peripheral neuropathy, which may become severe or irreversible, has occurred. Fatalities have been reported. Conditions such as renal impairment (creatinine clearance under 60 mL per minute or clinically significant elevated serum creatinine), anemia, diabetes mellitus, electrolyte imbalance, vitamin B deficiency, and debilitating disease may enhance the occurrence of peripheral neuropathy. Patients receiving long-term therapy should be monitored periodically for changes in renal function.

Optic neuritis has been reported rarely in postmarketing experience with nitrofurantoin formulations.

Needless to say I'm not taking it this time for my UTI, Cipro instead.  The thing is the CIPRO didn't get rid of it the first time, but then the Macrobid didn't either.  But I stayed on it for three months STRAIGHT.

I'm devastated.

Today I visited an PT for a consultation on my neuropathy.  She told me that there are NO EXERCISES to off set the neuropathy.  I must ADAPT by walking slower with my feet further apart, and now I have a cane.

I'm devastated.  I know I said that, but it's really hitting me hard.

She tried orthopedic things that support your calf, ankle and foot, a sort of brace.   They kept my foot from flopping, and made walking easier.  But I won't order them yet.  Maybe the cane will be enough.

I have a ton of tests scheduled, 4 more appointments, no, five.  An Echo Cardiogram and a CT Scan with angiogram, Pulmonary function test, immune challenge test by an allergist, etc.  Sigh.

I hope I feel better soon from the UTI.   This is getting me down cause I'm sick.

I told my husband today:  I want my money back!  This life isn't making me happy!

That's a joke.l

I'm usually a happy person and will be again.

Oh,, today I had my PT appointment at a facility with lots of children.  What an easy time I have of it compared to the kids in wheel chairs and with walkers.  This has come to me late in life and I have had it all up until now.

So I need to focus on the positive and learn to slow down.

Hugs

That is really rough concerning the neuropathy!

Once you get rid of the UTI .. please consider the D-Mannose. I take it twice a day and have not had an infection in a year. I also have IC and tend toward getting UTI's easily. D-Mannose works!

PS.. If taken every two hours, you can also get rid of a UTI with D-Mannose.

Dear jazz lover,

I have ordered a big supply of D-mannose after checking it out at the NIH site and seeing how good it is.

THANKS

I noticed your problems and I have been having similar.  I just turned in a 24 hour urine collection.  They are looking for protein.  I have also heard the dr mention creatnine (sp).  After the 24 hr test comes back, maybe I'll have a more solid explanation of what my problem is.  I will keep following your situation.  Hope you are better soon.
