........Have your dog scratch your retina.     I was playing with my dog yesterday on the bed and her nail accidently scratched my eyeball.  Now it won't stop watering and is very sore.  Not sure if I should get it checked out or not. It's not like they can stitch it up. I guess I'll wait until Monday since it's the weekend and hope it's better by then.  Trust me....dry eyes are better!

I would get is checked out ASAP. You don't want to mess with your eyesight.
Heavens knows what kind of germs your dog has on his claws.

About a year ago I had one of my kitties scratch me and it got infected. Heck I had kitties as a little girl, got scratches, etc. and it never got infected. Soooo I think the Sjogrens makes us more susceptible for something to turn into an infection.

I'm with Pisces on this one, Jenny.  You must get your eye checked out immediately.

I have two dogs...one large, one small.  The small guy scratched his "big brother's" eye, and it took three months to heal.  Lots of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, several procedures on the cornea, and sooo much pain.  And last week it happened again to the other eye.    I think I will put mittens on the little guy's front paws. 

So get it looked at. Better safe than sorry.

This thing is an ER kind of thing.  You must have it looked at and likely antibiotic will be prescribed and perhaps a bandage contact lens.  Your eyes are moist because they are "crying" from the insult to your eye.

These tears are not good tears, but reflex tears from the injury.  Lucy

Yes, yes, yes, get it taken care of ASAP!  You can end up with bacteria that will actually eat a hole in your cornea. It happened to me last Fall.   It can cause permanent scarring on the cornea.

I would go to the ER, at least they can give some antibiotics or take a look until you get to see your ophtalmologist...

Anything that happens to eyes like this is really a medical emergency. A scratch on the cornea can infect very fast and they are to hard to heal because there is not a good blood supply. The infection can also go deeper into the eye itself and result in vision problems if not treated immediately.

My DIL is an optometrist (and a very good one I might add--works for a group of opthalmologists so she feels very honored) and she came home from work last month telling me about a gal who had iritis in one eye.

Turns out the gal had some sort of autoimmune disease and had seen an eye doc about 1 year ago and got some medicine. She then lost her job and insurance and didn't go back to the doc. I don't know if the other eye doc didn't tell her how severe and important this eye issue was or what.

Anyway, here she comes to my DIL for the first time and DIL was just sick as this gal is going to pretty much lose her vision in that eye she thinks. DIL started her on antibiotics and oral prednisone but sent her to ER as she thinks that the gal will need IV steroids to calm this eye down. DIL was very worried that the good eye might end up getting infected like this also.

Anytime anything happens to our eyes it is an important issue. We only have 2 eyes and they must last us all our life.
