candesartan cilexetil (Amias) anyone?

Is nyone else is taking this drug? If so, has it helped?  I've been taking it for nearly three weeks now, and it seems to coincide with a flare of my SJS. In fact, the only reason I'm telling myself I am in a flare and it's not a side effect of the drug is the fact that my salivary glands have been hurting.

Looking at the adverse event profile, weakness and joint and muscle pains are considered rare, but who knows?

I started this drug for hypertension as the Ramipril I had been taking was making my stomach/GERD issues worse. However, it was good at lowering the BP. I have a review with the GP next week, so I'll discuss it then, but I just thought I would ask. BTW my reading today was 133/98, which is much improved from the 190/110 last year.

Kathy, Ask the doc for some of the older bp drugs. Sometimes the newer ones just seem to cause more trouble that they are worth.

I know that some of the newer meds have some special properties that treat more specific issues. My hubby has had hypertension since 1978 and has been treated all these years. He is on maxide (hydrochlorthiazide/triamterene), metoprolol (lopressor) captopril (capoten) and the latest one which beside treating blood pressure also helps to regulate his atrial fibrillation.

The reason so many meds is because he needs them and if you treat with more meds and avoid the really high dosages of meds there are usually less side effects and better coverage. A couple of these drugs help to prevent heart failure from enlargement of the left venticle which is common in hypertension. Must work cause with all his problems his heart is enlarged but not as bad as it could be. Good luck. irish

Thanks Irish. I will see how it goes. Apparently, this is a good drug to protect my kidneys, but I'm sure there will be others.
