I'm a big baby. An old baby, but a baby nonetheless... I have Bursitis in both knees, and ice and NSAIDS are not making it go away. It feels like kneeling on glass.

I called my Rheumatologist today, and she is going to inject both of my knees on Monday. I really don't want to, but have to. It's a three hour drive each way. I'm going to be a nervous wreck.

No more self-indulgent whining...

No I haven't. If she wants me to see an ortho. I will. I will go on her recommendation, and to the person she refers me to. I live in the country, and the doctors here are a little scary. That's why I drive three hours each way.

Hi Jane-

I also drive (hubby drives) about 90 miles one way to see my rheumy.

I had two shots in my left knee of cortisone this year --but spaced about 4 months apart.  The first one was after a year of osteoarth and hurting bad.  I have a knee replacement in the other knee and will probably have the other done soon.

The first shot had improved my knee 90% the next day.  I had been using a walker in the house it hurt so bad.  I hope you get as much relief, but you won't know until after and it might be more than a day to tell.

I've had cortisone shots in every joint there is, (really). Some are worse than others.  The ones I had in my knee were not bad at all.  I always think it will be worse than it really is.  They spray some cold stuff that numbs your skin and makes it so the shot doesn't hurt.  Good luck.  Do you have anyone to go with you?  Lucy

Hi Sissyjane:

I get cortizone shots in both sacroiliac joints under fluroscopy about 3 times a year for the past four or so years now.  When they give cortizone shots they always give a local anesthetic so the discomfort shouldn't be too bad and the relief afterwards is usually pretty good.

Once you've been thru the procedure, you'll probably have alot less anxiety for the next time as it usually is the unknown that causes the worry.

You'll do fine, just keep thinking about how this is going to help you and try to just focus on that rather than the little bit of discomfort you might or might not experience during the administration of the shots.

Hi  :)

I haven't needed shots in both knees but I used to get shots in one knee before getting a partial joint replacement. They really used to help - a lot. Don't be scared. They are worth it and not too painful when being given either.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Thank you everyone! ...and of course, I woke up this morning and my knees don't hurt at all. I'm just like a little kid. Take me to the doctor, and everything is suddenly all well!

Xrays will tell. My wife Jan just had both knees replaced.
