False positive ds-dna antibodies??

Has anyone ever had a false positive ds-dna test? My rheumatologist is rechecking mine with a lab that has more sensitive results because it came back positive through their lab in the office (it has never been positive before and I have been seeing her since 2004). She said the office lab tends to run high on this test. I am already diagnose with Sjogrens syndrome (2004) and am on Plaquenil, Evoxac, Lodine and Restasis. She rechecks my antibodies annually or if I start flaring, and the only ones that have been positive are ANA, SSA, thyroid, Lupus anticoagulant. Only issues are dry eyes, mouth, arthralgias, skin rashes, no internal organ issues thankfully. I am not sure if she told me that this was probably a false positive so I wouldn't worry, or if this can actually happen. My RF was also positive for the first time with this test......I guess I will find out soon enough, but wondered if anyone else ever had a false positive ds-dna antibody test?

Thanks,
Nancy

Nancy, I had a negative DS DNA but haven't had more than 2 of them over the years. Yes, it is possible for this test to be false positive as it is many other tests. I don't know what they just don't send the tests that are more fragile out to the better laboratories to begin with. Sure would save money in the long run. When you have to have 2 different labs run a test the costs add up..

Interesting that your RF was positive. Wait and see---blood work can be tricky at times. Let us know what you find out. Irish ;D
