I've noticed prescription drug programs to help low income people pay for medications. I think sometimes you can get them free. Does anyone know of the legitimate places that help people with prescriptions? I've found a bunch of them, and they ask you to fill out a form to apply. But I wonder if they are real or not.

I figured someone may know which are real and not.

Hi Jason-
I would think most of the programs would be at/or have the name of the drug company manufacturing a particular drug.  IE. Pfizer.  It would help to do a google search for "low income drug programs" or similar to find out.

I will bet you can't find out any information that will be of use to YOU until you fill out the form.  What might work for you - may not work for me.  If that's the case, it wouldn't help me at all to know what helped you.

I know in most cases you have to be low income and/or no health insurance.  But, what's "low income" for one may not be for another.  Good luck and maybe others will answer you.  Lucy

I don't know what state you are in but I'm in Oregon and there is a prescription drug program here. You can go online to Oregon Prescription Drug Program and fill out the form or you can call and do it over the phone, which is what I did. It took 4 minutes and they don't ask personal questions.

If you have it in your state it could really help.

I live in North Carolina and most of the Senoir Centers have a drug help program. The one by us asks for $50 a year (no matter how many meds you get through them) then the meds they help you get are free for a year.

I forgot to mention that in Oregon you don't have to even be low income just under insured or no insurance.

I'm in Tennessee. They have something called Coverrx where you pay a small co-pay. But it looks like it is limited to a list of drugs. So, if your drug isn't on the list, then I guess you pay full price. It probably would be a good idea to sign up. But I'd like to still keep looking for something that covers any drugs. As I was looking at trying Restasis. And I believe Restasis through the company only gives you 6 months of it out of the year if you qualify.
