Dry skin on feet

Hello everybody, I'm quite new to this forum but I have found it very helpful. I found out that I had Sjogren about 15 years ago with  dry eyes, mouth and nose symptoms but I manage to keep it under control, there are good days and bad ones too but after reading the previews here I can't complain!
I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with very dry skin on feet with splits as well which suddenly disappears for a while then comes back worse than ever. This is what has happened to me 3 or 4 times and I haven't changed my creams either. I have a form of psoriasis on my thumb which is also strange because it comes in May and goes away in November. Is this also part of Sjogren or am I just strange! Thanks for your attention.

Hi Ingy  :)

Welcome to Sjogren's world.

Have you had your thyroid checked out? Very dry, cracking skin on feet can be caused by an underactive thyroid. So saying, there was a thread on here recently about it and it seemed to be SjS related rather than thyroid.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I was talking about thick dry skin on my feet as you said  and the splits are really painful. Scottie was right I have had problems with my thyroid for years Hashimoto actually and I never knew it could give dry skin. See how useful this forum is I'm so glad I found it.Take care. :)

Dear Ingy54.,

I had the thick dry skin on the bottoms of my feet, and deep cracks that wouldn't heal (or splits).   They cannot heal unless you treat the skin with a cream to thin it, while putting an antibiotic cream on the splits.  AND you need to wear the right shoes.

I finally saw a podiatrist, about two months ago.  The two horrible splits/cracks have healed!  The pain was awful, sharp and burning and never went away, even resting.   It took longer for an abraded spot on my big toe to finally heal.

I realized that I had left blood spots on the floor and rug for at least TWO YEARS, from this horrible mess.

Now I am being fitted with the proper shoes, and I have faithfully put on the creams and the antibiotic ointment, and kept my feet in socks at all times.

I used to go barefoot around the house and even outside.  NO MORE.

My feet had gotten and entire size LARGER, and I didn't know it, so all my shoes only made the problem worse.

I have neuropathy of my feet and legs, as well.   So I wasn't as aware of stepping on things and hurting my feet as I should have been.

The cream has urea in it, to soften the skin.   I must never use anything on my skin or feet on my own.   I must have the podiatrist take care of them.

Because with my neuropathy I could wind up with serious infections.

It is just so  nice NOT to have the horrible sharp burning pain when I walk and rest now.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Hugs.

Hi Ingy  :)

If your feet are really dry do ask your doc to check your thyroid and make sure your meds are right. I keep needing to have mine adjusted - sometimes up the way - and sometimes down. They seem to have been changed every six months for about 5 years now!

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Elaine, glad to see you have resolved your problem with your feet. I don't know if it is the cream I'm using which has urea in it or just good luck but as I said my feet have gone back normal again, hardly any hard skin and corns. It has happened before but after a short while it went back to the usual horrible and painful state! I'm hoping it'll last longer this time. Bye for now ;)

Hi Ingy,

Glad to hear you are better.

The cream with Urea is Deep Healing Foot Cream and available OTC at about 4 dollars a jar.

The secret according to what I've read is to use it consistently and always!

Keep me posted.

Isn't it nice when it's gone!!!   Happy Dance (looking over shoulder for other things that come out when one has gone away or been put into remission).

sis

Yes, my feet are very dry!

I always have these cracks and have to try so hard not to peel away dead skin.

They seem  to itch too.  When I pick at them I end up hobbling around for days.

My thyroid always checks out fine.

I'm going to the drug store now to pick up the vagifem for dry lady parts so I'll grab the cream Carolina mentioned  too!!!
