Wow, is that a surprising burn! I went out ad picked up a bag of chips so I could have a couple with my supper hot dog. My lips, tongue, and mouth started to burn. I usually get Cheddar sour cream chips. These were burning very bad. Ouch. I check the bag and it is mesquite BBQ. Argh.

Nothing like taking a bite or drink of something with expectations of how it will taste and it turns out to be something totally different.  Sorry it burned too.  Salty snacks frequently burn my mouth because of the dryness, not to mention spicy things!  Been there, done that : )

I figured I was not the only one to do something like this. :)

I'm so sorry, Joe.  :-\

There are so many things now, I have noticed, that I eat and they burn or don't taste the way they did just a couple of years ago. I used to love a cold glass of OJ, now it is pure acid on my tongue.
