Another question about the biopsy...

Hello again,

I am wondering who out there has had a lip biopsy and how was it done? Does anyone know if a needle biopsy is the correct way to get this done? I have an appointment next week and was told it would be done with a needle. Everything I have read said it is done with a small incision in the lower lip. If anyone can help me with this question I would really appreciate it. I hate the idea of going through this to find out it is not accurate and wasn't done "right".

Thanks,
Spartan1

Hi Spartan1, I just had my second lip biopsy, the first time they didn't take enough glands.. this last time I went to the right place Johns Hopkins!!! I can't stress enough to go to the right place to have it done. I have never heard of a needle biopsy being done on the lip, they have to look at the tiny little glands to see what they have. Ask this Dr how many they have done? Research it and make sure you feel comfortable with what your doing!!

Spartan1,

I don't know if a needle biospy is the way to go or not;  I have not heard of it done that way.  I had the "small incision" one and ended up with 4 stiches and and inconclusive reading.   I did lose 10 pounds which was the high point of the biopsy.

Best of Luck,

Thank You both for the advice, and I will look into it further. Didn't seem right to me and I was heading towards cancelling the appointment. I am trying to go to Johns Hopkins. My ins. won't allow me to go out of state. I have been through so much and I need some sort of resolution. I need to get help. This has been the most frustrating thing to deal with. I have lost so much faith in the medical community.

I appreciate this site and everyone who understands!!

Thanks Again,

When I had it done, I had the incision, and the doc was explaining to a resident what was going on, and it sounded like they actually removed a couple of salivary glands, as opposed to cutting a piece of them or anything like that.

So in that respect, a needle biopsy doesn't seem possible, if that's the way everyone does it.

Thanks everyone!!
I am going to postpone the biopsy until I learn more. I want it done correctly!!
