One of the most important things to remember as long as you live is to breathe....
Breathe in, "I am" ... Breathe out, "Calm"
These should be as slow and as deep as possible. They should roll like waves on an ocean.

I the other thing that I try to remember is that Panic, and Anxiety like Gas shall pass.

So, Mr Duffy - have you spoken to any good nurse practioner/advisor/specialists in the area of how they can help you approach this in terms of the anxiety you are naturally experiencing through all of this.  I surely feel for you and will be thinking of you and hoping that things will get better each day.

There is no shame in seeking professional help and/or medications. Much of recent research indicates anxiety/depression is related to physical changes having nothing to do with 'being weak' as some thought in the old days.

As for myself I've finally figured out what 'Idle hands are the devil's workshop' means. For me it means if I stay busy and exercise as much as possible I'm much more likely to have a quiet, blissfully empty head at bedtime and before. Exercise causes the body to produce endorphins which are natural pain killers and mood enhancers.

Sometimes the body isn't doing it's job correctly though and we need some additional help.

If you go for meds watch out for Wellbutrin and Chiantix, both have been linked to suicidal tendencies. Anyone taking them should consult their doctor immediately if they notice such symptoms.

I hope you find something that works well for you. Now get off your duffy and do something about it. =)
Dxed unspecific 'sicca syndrome' eyes and mouth. Neuro issues, muscle weakness. SS Seronegative but high inflammatory markers. Diabetes dx 2010. Glucose control improved neuromuscular issues. Enlarged thyroid under observation 2013. Yippee.

Dear Mr. Duffy:

Ask for something to help with the anxiety attacks.

Anxiety attacks are often caused by physical changes due to ill health, medications, childbirth, traumatic events etc

Once they are triggered, they then tend to keep rolling.  The cascade of biochemicals triggers more and more easily.

The sense of terror is over whelming.

it is essential to stop the cycle as quickly as possible.

My husband had a series triggered by an illness and one of the medications.

The entire process is horrible for everyone.

He got a medication (I don't remember what) and by taking it he got relief, and learned to take it as soon as an attack was beginning.

It took maybe a couple of months, and the cycle was interrupted.  This was 4 years ago, and they haven't returned.

And I've known several people who have used similar medications for the time following a very scary diagnosis of cancer.

Taking the medication as early as possible can interrupt a physical cycle that feeds on itself.

Best Wishes Mr. Duffy,

Keep us posted.

Kisses

This might sound simplistic, but one thing that works for me is to go outside, do something outside and stay there for awhile until I realize I feel better. Time seems to pass faster, pain is less---I don't know, maybe the brain waves go up into the sky and all around instead of bouncing back from four walls and reverberating.

I see an np/psychologist for help with anxiety (as needed) and meditation has helped me more than anything.
Love Joe's comment about panic & anxiety being like gas, they do pass. Very uncomfortable while experiencing though.
I also find that if I have enough energy to keep physically busy in some way, I can distract myself.
Mr. Duffy, I am sorry you are struggling with this!

GPHX~ that is fantastic advise...alas she is sorta stuck in bed w/'er blood^pumper (heart) wookiness & arrithmias...
so exercise is outa the question 4 right now...but what 'bout gettin' a hobby like knittin' or sumthin' that would be
able ta keep ur noggin occupied mr.duffy?!  maybe a game on sons dsixl???
my 82 yr old papa likes the word^worm game on mine!!! (hint hint son)   8)

SUSAN~UR SO RIGHT...when it's happenin' death sounds more comfy!!!
i used ta have such anxiety/panic that my attacks would  run tagether...
& that said i could be in a panic for hours on end!!! sit straight up in bed & panic as soon as i woke up!!!

p/doc put me on head meds in 2001...got off 'em in 2005...
that blanketed it 4 awhile but added their own trouble a couple yrs inta takin' 'em...
so went off all head meds & now i'm just a panicy hermit!!!  not the best result...but it works 4 me!!!

OK..I have a history of panic and anxiety attacks, and have tried just about every med out there to say WHATEVER, I'M NOT TAKING IT. When I feel one coming on I say, "SHUT UP! I don't have time. GO AWAY!"...seriously...it leaves a lot of the time! ;)

Prayers to Mr. Duffy...that suck completely.
