Good question, namakb!

I don't have the chemical odor problem, but you bring up a good point for a lot of us.

I'm planning on joining our local fitness center with a pool and sauna in the next month. I am eligible this year for a 1/2 price senior discount so now we can afford it. It's affiliated with the hospital and has some great programs.
In the summer, my husband and I started swimming in a family member's outdoor pool about 3 times a week and it helped my aches and joint pain.  So I'm looking forward to getting started at the center!

I'll check out the outdoor ventilation; good point. I have wondered a little about how many germs I might be subjecting myself to by doing this.  Don't need any more infections of any kind, thank you...

Meld, Might mention showering before going home will rid yourself of 'yucky' stuff. Rinse out your swimwear under shower.

And,I kept my water shoes on during shower.  No athlete's foot issues this way. Rinsed my bathing suit, shoes, and swim jacket in white vinegar water and hung up to dry.

Chlorine not only affects our bodies but bathing suits loose their elasticity fast. Suggest is you take any aerobic classes you get the water tennis shoe. Supports feet much better than common flip flops or soft water shoes.

Best wishes to you and hubby and you exercise adventure road... Have fun, Joy

Joy,

Thanks for the good suggestions. Yes, I always rinse my swimsuit (and myself) right away after being in chlorine.

I'll need to get some water shoes. I very well might want to take water aerobic classes, but I will start gently with everything... ;)
I'd love to be there now, but need to wait just a couple more weeks. (too many dentist and doc bills to catch up)  :(  But then, off I go to the pool!  I'm really looking forward to the exercise for my body and mind.  We have rain turning to snow tonight and my back and knees are starting their song...

Have a good night,
Melinda
