SLEEPY101

Hi all,
I need to loose some weight. I plan to start slow. I was wondering if anyone was interested in posting there thought and comments about thier journey and we can keep each other accountable? Here are some of my goals.
I want to start keeping a food journal so I can see what I inhale each day.
I want to start eating at least three meals a day instead of just one large one.
I want to make sure I eat fruits and veggies each day
I want to start drinking more water
I want to start exercising 3xs a week

Sleepy, your goals are admirable, and very sensible!

I'm always glad when people put the healthy steps ahead of the ultimate weight loss as their goal....it's a lot easier to include those healthy steps into your day than it is to say "I want to lose 10/20/30/?? kg" and just aim for that! Not nearly as frustrating either.

After a free fall into prednisone induced weight gain 7 years ago, I had to do something! Once the Pred dose got under 20mg/day, I found I was able to control my appetite, rather than the other way around, and I started following the Canada Food Guide, and measuring portions......bottom line: 24kg+ weight loss over 2 years.

One site I've found very helpful is http://www.sparkpeople.com  It gives you nutrition information, exercise plans, and an online food diary that checks balance of nutrients and calorie count of your meals as well as offering suggestions. You do have to register, but it's free. One of my favourite parts of that site is a link to it's sister site, SparkRecipes, that allows you to determine the calorie and nutrient count of you own recipes, so you can better see how "family favourites" can be fit into a healthier eating plan.

Good luck to you and all of us as we attempt to start 2011 with a healthier nutrition plan!

That sounds like a great plan SLEEPY.
You can do it girl!

Although I don't need to lose weight and rather need to put on a bit weight.
I am willing to join in. ;D

This sounds more like a living healthier kind of thing, so it's great!
Because I'm not into diets and all of that.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH  Sleepy!

Yes, and yes yes yes.

Your plan sounds good.

The journal is key I think.

I do everything else.

And grab things out of the cupboard several times a day...............

Which aren't on any plan.

sigh.

And having a drink or two.

sigh

But I certainly am 'interested' in losing weight.

:-)

Keep us posted

Me too please! I've not been very active this past year or so, and I'm getting far too heavy for my poor 5' frame. Also, my youngest son is to be married in June, and I would really like to be slimmer before then. Count me in please.

Linda, I joined an online weight loss site last night. It started off free, but then I paid 29.99 dollars to get food values. Unfortunately, I wasn't thinking straight, and most of the more conveninet products mentioned are not available in the UK. I guess I'll have to try to find similar products, for example the breakfast cereals, and different bread products. I'll also have a look at the site you mention.

Thank Linda I will have to check out that link.

@Kathy it has been almost a year since I stop working and that has made a big difference in my weight. Also not having my co-workers to motivate me doesn't help me either.

I am proud of myself today. I wrote down everything I ate and did a few floor exercises. It was nice to be focused on something besides my pain. This month will be three years since I got sick. It is time for me to focus on somthing else. I also see my new Rhuemy in March I have been waiting to see her since August. I want to be fit when I see her I would hate for her to blame my health problems on my weight.

One day at a time ladies. Have a good week:)

Sounds like a good plan - just don't try to do too much too soon.

Will be doing my best too.

There's a great Yahoo group called Eat-2-Live that follows Dr. Fuhrman's high-veggie and fruit plan (Eat to Live; Eat for Health books).  It's good.  He has an autoimmune plan that's basically, lots of veggies and fruits. Protein mostly from beans.  It works really well with weight loss.  I'm in it for the autoimmune, but had trouble at first keeping weight on!!  Very supportive people on the discussion group.  I found his books in the library.

Plaquenil, CellCept, Synthroid, Atorvastatin, Xiidra, doxycycline, D3, biotin, B12, ALA, DHEA, Ubiquinol, CPAP, D-mannose, Paleo AIP, fish oil, Cliradex wipes

Thanks for that Sooki. Unfortunately, I have bowel problems, and can't eat too much fruit and veg - and no beans whatsoever, even though I love them. This makes dieting very hard.

I lost to date 17lbs, but, more importantly inches with the "Metabolism Miracle". It was suggested by a medical professional. I am so pleased with the ease of method, no special costs, that I sent a copy to my mother. The author is a 20+ licensed nutritionist, member of the Diabetes Assoc., has her own practice and has experienced weight gain while following the "less calories in...more calories out"
She gives a really easy to comprehend explanation of how metabolism works and how some go "bonkers". No need for a diary. Again, ease of use is key for me, as I have become so forgetful.

Temperatures over 73 really wipe me out with fatigue, nausea, etc. I was eating yogurt with fresh fruit, as anything else I just could not handle. I thought this was a "smart" thing...not realizing that I was carb overloading and my blood sugar was spiking. Basically stressing my body with feast / famine, signalling my body to store everything.

I was avoiding mirrors, because it was sooo depressing not to look like myself. I saw a photo of myself from July and my face and body were so bloated.

Now I look like myself again.
My husband has diabetes and he adopted her suggestion to have a bit of peanut butter before bed, and his numbers in the A.M. are so much better. His doctor is very happy and says keep doing what you are doing.
