My God forsaken knees/pain/feet/pain/shoulders/pain

I am in a period of horrible pain.  This pain has origins so I know exactly where it's coming from.  1.  Left knee which I can hardly bend let alone walk on.  2.  My right knee which is a partial implant that has come loose, so it needs a full replacement.  That's two for tsw. 3. On my right foot, I have surgery scheduled for Dec. 18th for big toe which has bone spurs on it and sometimes feels as bad as the knees.  3. I have plantar faschitis on my heel of the right foot (the one with the big toe.)

I am walking on crutches in the house.  I went to the mall today by myself--bad idea--but hubby is laid up momentarily too.  I thought it would be ok for justa little while.  I only went to two stores an straight back to my car and had two resting periods sitting.  I could bawl, but that hurts my eyes too much.  I am going to call perhaps 3 of my drs tomorrow, my rheumy, my ortho guy I want to do my knee replacements and my GP.  I don't want to step on any toes as I like my drs, but I am ready for heavy duty drugs, more than Vicodin.  it's not touching the pain. 

As for my Nuvigil, not sure how appropriate it is right now-lol-as I ca't do anything but sit, lie or crutch in the very small house I have.  No matter where I am in the house, I'm only a few steps away from OUR (ONE) bathroom.  One good thing for a small house. I don't know if all this is because of SJS-or just osteo, as I know they like to throw that one at us.  Whatever it is, I have it in those places, plus my shoulders and my hands.  So far, my hips are ok but won't be by the crazy way I'm walking.  I will let y'all know where this ends up.  I am planning a 2 week trip to Fla in Feb and also don't want the knee replacement in mid-winter.  I did that once and what a problem.  Lucy Maybe I can sleep now that I've bented and took another Vicodin.

Last year I had a similar situation to yours with pain comming out of almost any joint. I thought I had RA and my dr. was willing to prescribe prednison for it...
Then I decided to try a change of diet and quit 'the bean' all together. Next day I could feel some improvement, at the end of the week I could virtually jump out of bed without any pain ! Now, a year later, no sign of RA remains.

People sometimes think drinking de-caf coffee will help, but not for me. It's something else in coffee to blame.

Maybe a long shot, but maybe a tip for you (despite your implants)?

My wife Jan is looking at double knee replacement. It is interesting to hear that summer is better than winter. Thank you. We will see what her new ortho says later this month.

Sorry you are hurting so much.
Can imagine the kind of pain you are having.
Had bad knee, heel pain and so on at the same time too.
Of course might be different by you but it already knocked me out.

Hopefully the doctors will give you a stronger painkiller.
Let us know how everything went and what the doctors said.

I can only begin to imagine how much pain you are in. I still remember vividly how sore my knee was before I got a partial knee replacement - and that was just one knee. It was incapacitating enough.  I hope your docs can give you something to see you through.

I don't know how you managed to get to the mall with such pain. You are one determined lady. I hope you have some luck with your doctors tomorrow and your pain lessens.

Lucy, I am sorry that you are suffering so much. My first thought on reading your post is that the weather has a dog in this race---plus, you just started the new med. It is supposed to kick up your brain so that you are more alert and awake. I wonder if it is kicking up those pain receptors also. Food for thought. Might be worth stopping the med and seeing what happens. It is the pits to be sleeping all the time, but if you have been taking the vicodin with good pain relief and it makes you sleep. Well, seems like there is always a trade off when it comes to a life on medications. I would sure prefer sleeping to being in pain and awake.

I talked to my orthodoc's office today.  No real solution.  They asked do you have crutches, walker?  Yep, all of the above.  Then they wanted to know where I got my pain medications. heehee.  I said my family doc whom I've had for 30 years.  They don't like me taking pain meds, but I can't even get up my steps to the house (5 of them) if I don't take anything.  After the mall incident yesterday, which was very short both in time and distance, I hurt so bad last night that nothing could help.  I took 3 Vicodin over a 12 hr period.  these are the 500 mg, not the big guns. 

The ortho nurse did say that I shouldn't have a cortisone shot if I'm having surgery--on my big toe on Dec. 17th, so I'll scratch that for now for the left knee.  I can't have any cortisone in the right knee, the one with the 1/2 implant that needs to be taken out and a full put in. So other than make the orthodoc wonder where I get my pain med, I didn't do anything today.  The knee is not as sore as last night, but I've not even dressed today.  Other than a bunch of dr appts this month and early Jan, don't have much to do.  What bit of Christmas shopping I do can wait or I can do in a quick trip or two.  To make all this funny (not) hubby is with a maybe broken toe right now is limping around too.

He lied to me how he messed up his foot so I am mad at him. lol.  I hope it hurts a lot.  Has something to do with deer hunting and a little white lie.  I am evil I know.  I will continue my regular meds with Vicodin when I need it.  I am taking the Nuvigil only occasionally.  I can't do anything so there is no reason for me to take meds I don't need right now.  I figure the pain meds must work against the Nuvigil.  I'll keep you guys involved. We are getting snow, but not as much as lots.  Lucy

Im so sorry to hear all your different pains...it still don't seem to keep ya down though, does it?! Im that type of person too. I hope they at least get the pain under control! I have a bad left knee and bad back right now and am on 10/500 hydrochodone and 50 mg tramadol. I can take each up to 4 times a day. I hate docs that don't believe you should take pain meds...I mean isn't that what they're for...pain!!!

Hope you get some relief!
