Kodak moments . . .

Hi -

Today, I had dug out some video tapes of years past and sat down and watched some of them.  Tapes of our son taking his first steps, bundled up in his winter clothes helping Daddy fill the bird feeders, of an Easter egg hunt in the front yard, washing his play dishes at the kitchen sink, of class at pre-school, school concert in first grade, birthday parties, baseball games, performing armpit music while the camera is rolling  ::), visits with Grandpa and Grandma, playing trumpet in band concert, Christmases, singing at church, riding the go-cart around the yard, etc.

It was so much fun reliving those years gone by.   To hear his tiny little voice as he's learning to talk.  To watch him have a crying hissyfit when I wouldn't do whatever it was he wanted me to do.  To see how much joy birthdays and Christmas are to him.  To see how much he has improved year to year in baseball.  To see him go from a small toddler, through a chubby stage, to a slim teenager. To see him grow up before my eyes.   :'(

I have mentioned this on many occasions, and I will mention it again . . . I truly, truly, truly love being a Mom.  We only have the one son - and he is a joy to us.  We are so blessed.

I hope everyone is taking Kodak moments of your children, grandchildren, friends, special events, life . . . . .  If you don't own a video camera, I would strongly urge you to get one . . . these are memories that can never be replaced.  We were fortunate that we received ours as a baby shower gift almost 15 yrs. ago.

Since pictures went digital, we don't "print" them out as often - even though the camera is full of pictures.  (In a way, I miss print film - once you finished it up, you just dropped it off and had it developed.  Hubby has yet to teach me how to get my pictures out of my camera now!).

Anyhow . . this post is about capturing moments of time to savor.  As in my case, yes it is sad to see images of loved ones who have since passed away, but it is heartwarming too that I DO have these special memories captured on tape.   Keep the camera rolling!!   ;D

Yes, those captured memories are treasures!  Everyone remember to back up your digital pics and videos, in case something happens to your camera or computer.

Hi  :)

When my kids were little we couldn't aford a video camera - I would have loved one!

I do have tapes of my youngest daughter at various dancing competetions though and I treasure them. Unfortunately i don't have anything to play them on on now!! Everything has gone digital!

I sent my son and his wife a camcorder for their babyshower and already have some video I will treasure now.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Scottie - I am sure your son and DIL will get a lot of use out of the camcorder.  Nice gift.   ;D  That way, Grandpa and Grandma can see Avery at all the various stages he will go through before you actually see him in person.

I wish my parents had had a video camera when all us kids were growing up.  I think it would be fun to watch what we did, to hear our little kid voices, etc.

I have several tape recordings of some neighbor kids, nieces and nephews.  On one of the tapes the neighbor girl, Becky, was singing her ABC's while she was banging on the piano.  When she got married and had a daughter of her own, I made a copy of the tape of her when she was two years old and gave it to her.   ;D

Another tape I have is of another three year old friend.  She was singing a song.  On the last Sunday before Emily got married and moved to another state, I had the opportunity to play that tape in front of the congregation.  Brady, her husband to be, just sat there awestruck listening to his future bride singing a song that I had recorded and kept for the last 21 years.  There were parts in the song where Emily is giggling.  Priceless.   ;D

Keep making those memories.   ;D

I've been research my family genealogy. I am soooo grateful to have some pictures of some of my ancestors.
I wish I knew what some of them looked like way back when.

I had golden blond hair until age 3 yrs old and have not found anyone else in the family like that. So I am still searching for the "blond" ancestor.

Hey Pisces, My hubby worked for Kodak... and, our first son when born had dark brown hair as hubby and I do. :)

Oops... the second born, a son, had blonde hair and fair skinned. ???

Oh, NO!  Third one, a daughter, had strawberry blonde and skin 'red as a beet' when born though soon became fair skinned.
Took a lot of kidding about my kids.... But, always laughed and said we had a German milkman!! :D

Thank goodness hubby's mother had beautiful Irish red hair and my mother had the most beautiful wolf-looking, bluish-green eyes... ;)

Felt very comfortable with my 'brew' ... My answer was in our genealogy!  ;D

You know, Pisces, the problem I have run into in genealogy and a picture are is if it was not actually a painted portrait, most times it was in black and white.    ::)

Then enters, was hair black or brown and eye color a true mystery... encountered any of this yet???   :o

My book, Up Cox Valley Through The Years, contains all black and white copies of pictures, as does hubby?s cousin who has written several.

I scanned over 10,000 photos from Jan's family and the ones of ours we could find. We put them into a couple of digital picture frames. I have not seen any of the movies for a number of years.

I hope with the holidays here that you have checked your cameras and camcorders, etc. for fresh batteries or recharge them if they are rechargeable.

You don't want to miss any of those Kodak moments!!   ;D
